Renault To Revive Alpine Through New Model Set to Be Revealed In February
|   Sunday, January 10, 2016
Fans of the classic Alpine A110 will be very happy to learn that the former French sports model will have a successor to match set to weigh in 1100 kg, have a centrally located engine, and engines that get 300 horsepower. So far, 2016 is set to be memorable one for fans of the Renault brand.

Accustomed by now to bet on the sporting exclusively in the RS range, the French will have available this year a new range of dedicated models that promise to provide a high degree of dynamism.

The Alpine line has been confirmed by Renault's officials and will revive in 2016 by launching a dedicated model which will be presented on February 16 and will be officially launched at the Geneva Motor Show, which opens its doors in March.

The information comes through official channels, more exactly through the Twitter account which Renault specially built earlier this year for the Alpine line.
"We wanted to announce our come back but some would say we never left" was the message with which the Alpine return to the spotlight.

It is not known yet the name of the first model after reviving the Alpine brand, but assumptions go on A120 or AS1. According to preliminary information from the European press, the rightful successor for the historic Alpine A110 Berlinetta - one of the more beautiful French cars ever produced - will benefit from a basic variant that will have about 250 hp and a top one that will get 300 hp. The Alpine A110 Berlinetta was launched in 1961 and produced until 1977.

Both versions will have under the hood a turbocharged TCe engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters, derived from the engine with a displacement of 1.6 liter, which is found on the Clio RS model.

This engine will be centrally situated slightly in front of the rear wheels. The gearbox will be an automatic one with seven speeds and two clutches.
To produce the first model in the new Alpine range Renault's engineers have turned to methods used by premium brands on their sports models. The aluminum alloys are the basis for constructing the new car. The initial target was to produce a sports car that weighs less than 1,000 kilograms, but engineers have concluded that the target would be achieved only if the combination of chassis and bodywork would be enriched by the presence of carbon fiber. Because this material is too expensive to maintain a model within a decent price, the total mass of the car was capped at 1,100 kilograms, an excellent value anyway compared to other similar models from the market.

The first model in revitalized Alpine range will be followed by the appearance of an SUV.
"The challenge with Alpine is to somehow fill this gap of more than 20 years and do a product that is believable. The car really needs to create the foundation of Alpine. We need to create the 911 of Alpine. If we do that properly, then we can consider cars like the Panamera." declared Laurens van den Acker, Renault's design chief.
