Renault showcases the design of the Captur
|   Monday, January 21, 2013
Renault is looking forward to styling its new SUV Crossover, the Captur, in line with the Clio. The Captur is expected to rival the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008 and the designs of this vehicle will be showcased at the Detroit Auto Show 2013. Renault is looking forward to this vehicle and the final product is expected to be available in the market by 2015. The Captur has been named after the concept vehicle designed by Renault and showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011.

Although the concept vehicle featured scissor doors, this has been done away with on the production model. The external features of the Captur are similar to those of the Clio except that the vehicle features a long wheelbase and features an increase in height. The front end of the Captur features a new bold design and the overall surfaces are quite sculpted.

Renault announced that the Captur has its own identity, very different from that of the Clio and this is in the department of the interior and mechanical parts. The exterior is very similar and Renault could try revamping the overall exterior of the vehicle. The Captur will also be sold extensively and separately from the Clio. Underneath the front wheel drive technology of the Captur, is the Renault – Nissan B platform.

This is the only feature which differentiates the Captur from the Juke and the Clio. The Captur features a 4120 mm wheelbase and is just 15 mm shorter than the Juke. Although both these SUV crossovers are quite similar to each other on various fields, they are quite different from one another when it comes to the basic mechanical features of the vehicle.

With the Juke, Nissan had plans to capture the hatchback segment while the Captur aims at capturing the SUV segment. The target audience is different for both these vehicles and as a result there is no chance of these vehicles eating into each other's sales. The interior of the Captur tells a whole new story about the vehicle and from spacing to designing, the vehicle looks complete and appropriate.

The seating arrangement on the vehicle is decent and the seats provide optimum under thigh support. The upholstery is also done in a soothing color and this mix well with the general body color of the vehicle. The ground clearance of the Captur is quite high and although this is not meant for heading off road, the vehicle is a decent soft roader. The chassis is also quite rigid and the torsion rigidity is more than that of the Clio.

The power train on the Captur has been borrowed from the Clio and that includes the 0.9 liter engine displacing 89 BHP. A 1.5 liter turbo charged engine is also available although the fuel efficiency and CO2 emission of this vehicle has not been gauged as of yet. Renault is claiming that the Captur features the best in class fuel efficiency. This factor needs to be tested.
