Renault Plans on Hitting Global Markets big with its Zoe EV
|   Tuesday, December 17, 2013
Completely automated vehicles may still be some time off but Renault is definitely heading in the right direction. The company is working on a new technology which they believe could be seen in production vehicles by 2020. This is part of a new technology known as the Advanced Driving Assistance Systems or ADAS, which engineers have put in the experimental Zoe EV. This combination of software and hardware allows users to drive at maximum speeds of 20 MPH in automated mode.

This could be a great facility for driving on pedestrian free dual urban carriageways. This way the driver can sit back and relax while Zoe takes strain of driving. Its basic function is when Zoe takes over driving control; it alerts the driver of signing over controls via the single push of a button. This way the driver can take back control even while the vehicle is in motion. A low end hardware software combination consists of GPS and a forward facing traffic parking camera mounted on its side mirrors.

Even though Renault plans on introducing this feature on future vehicles, we could be getting a sneak peak as soon as 2015. A slew of advanced features are available on the Zoe EV and few of these include Adaptive Cruise Control, Parking Assistance, Traffic Sign Recognition and Automated Driving. An advanced set of data fusion is expected to be installed in this vehicle which will help interact between the users and the machine.

This project was first conceived in order to save the environment as well as reduce accidents although now it has grown into a full-fledged effort to conceptualize automated vehicles for the benefit of humanity. This is an advanced form of a Parking System known as the Advanced Valet Parking System while advanced Wi-Fi is available with this vehicle. A responsive turbo charger ensures better engine refinement as well as spontaneous power delivery while ensuring better fuel efficiency.

Next generation vehicles are also expected to sport a built in infotainment system which will house a touch screen device to help the machine interact with the user. This will be available in the form of a mobile phone touch screen. A basic version of this is already available in vehicles designed by Audi and Volkswagen although a more advanced form is now needed. A long range travelling distance on electricity is needed to encourage people to opt for electric vehicles and car makers are currently working on this. Dual turbochargers have been installed on this vehicle for greater power displacement and supply and this as a result gives it better refinement and drive ability.

Renault is offering 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter petrol electric hybrid engines while economy of the smaller engine is slated to be better in all senses. Responsiveness is all that matters and even though things have been kept under wrap, we are still greeted by great engine sound every time the engine is fired up. Stay tuned for latest updates and drive test reviews.
