Renault launches the upgraded Clio 4 and the Clio 200 Super Sports
|   Sunday, September 30, 2012
Renault has planned a subsequent modification to its sports oriented vehicle – the Clio. The manual transmission system of the vehicle has been removed and this has been done in a move to make the Clio more driving centered. Renault has launched the all new Clio 200 Super sports and the Clio 4 at the Paris International Motor Show 2012 and the specifications of the machines are yet to be disclosed.

The Clio super sports is powered by a 1.6 liter turbo charged petrol engine which is mated to a dual clutch automatic transmission system, hence bringing an end to the reign of the famed Clio Sports Coupe's intimidating acceleration and overall performance.

The new modification to the drive train of the Clio is not necessarily an upgrade as the vehicle has lost its sharp driving ability that the Clio was famous for. The car has lost its aggressive nature to the liking of the people who want to drive the Clio in city traffic and Renault claims that this switch will take the sports driving experience of the Clio to the next level.

The new 1.6 liter turbo charged engine displaces 197 BHP @ 6,000 RPM as compared to the 197 BHP @ 7,200 RPM produced by the current Clio. Torque production has been increased from 158 ft lb to 177 ft lb and the 2.0 liter super charged engine achieves the same @ 5,400 RPM.

The peak torque on the new Clio is available from just 1,760 RPM and continues till 5,700 RPM, hence the car feels aggressive at all times. The improvement in the drive train helps the car to remain grounded and the vehicle is very stable even at high speeds. The Clio features an advanced dual clutch transmission called the efficient dual clutch or EDC which can either be controlled by the steering wheel mounted shifters or left to automatic mode.

The Clio can make a complete gear shift in less than 150 milliseconds and this is great news for people who wish to drive the Clio within the city perimeters on a daily basis. The Clio is still as comfortable and easy to ride as it always was apart from the loss in aggressiveness, but this could be seen as an advantage for people who want to make the Clio their first vehicle.

The Clio features three distinct drive modes – normal, sport and race – which can be selected while driving with the help of the RS Drive option and this alters the settings and performance of the engine, transmission suspension, handling etc.

In race mode the Clio can accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in under 6.5 seconds against the 5.9 seconds time frame on its predecessor. However, the Clio is still the performance mogul it used to be and the car remains close to the 6.0 mark launch point like before.

Renault claims that the4 1.6 liter engine – formed from the Nissan Renault partnership – is perfectly suited to the needs of the Clio and this is the best upgrade the vehicle could feature.
