Renault Created Prototype Model Placed Between The Clio And Twingo
|   Monday, December 29, 2014
Renault is preparing a new small class platform and plan to use it as a test bed for a concept called Value Up, say the British from Autocar. In parallel with this, the French are working on a two-cylinder diesel engine, which will be significantly more efficient than the current four-cylinder units.

The concept has not yet been presented by French brand officials, but its details have been revealed at a special event held in France. On this occasion, several innovations and projects were presented.
Among the projects people at Renault are working on, we include the concept mentioned above and an innovative new diesel engine, which has two cylinders and is significantly lighter and more efficient than any other propeller from the current offer.

The Renault Value Up concept has a length of 3.8 meters and is situated between the Twingo and Clio. The model is powered by a 1.0-liter petrol and emits just 100 grams of CO2 per km. A plug-in hybrid version of the model would provide CO2 emissions of only 45 grams per kilometer, estimates French brand representatives.

The innovative nature of the new Renault concept consists in the materials used for its construction, the vehicle having a weight of only 830 kg. Both body and interior have elements from bamboo in order to reduce the total weight. Unfortunately for those expecting a series version of the Eolab Concept, a new creation of the French, it will not have a production version, it would only be a test facility for trying out and planning future technologies of the brand.

The two-cylinder diesel engine is 50 percent smaller than the best-selling compression ignition propellant of the French concern. Due to the small size this engine it does not require as much space in the engine compartment, which allows a lower center of gravity and improved antiphonary. In addition, the prototype weighs less than 100 kilograms (40 percent less than the 1.5 dCi, and is 15 percent more efficient than an equivalent unit with four in-line cylinders.

The prototype developed by Renault is designed for emerging markets but is not yet ready for production. The engine has a Twincharger configuration with turbo and supercharger, and provides a level of power located between 48 hp and 68 hp but Renault representatives were committed to achieving a stronger output when placed into production.

The dashboard centerpiece is a large touchscreen display that goes all across the width of the car.
It has 2 LCD screens in front of the driver to display the instruments and 2 76 cm x 17 cm screens on the rest of the dash. One is a large infotainment screen through which sat-nav, air conditioning on the direction the door mirrors are pointing at can be controlled.

The second screen is placed in front of the passenger and is used for entertainment. The system can play movies and music as well as display photos and would be able to connect to the internet via smartphone.
