Redesigned Corvette a Winner With Buyers
|   Tuesday, September 30, 2014
When Chevy announced it was releasing a revised Corvette C7 for the 2014 model year, market observers gasped. Why, they asked, would the automaker tamper with a winning formula?

Market observers were stunned that Chevy had the audacity to take its flagship line, a line that has become legend, and change it extensively. They were worried that buyers might avoid it in droves. But, they were worried for nothing, reports Corvette Blogger, as the Corvette enthusiast world has embraced the C7, in a manner that never happened with the C6.
Indeed, the return has been huge as the C7's are approaching the combined sales record of the C6 in its last three years of production.

For 2014, the Blogger reported, the C7 build numbers were 37,288, making the launch of the C7 not only successful, but also pushing it to third place in modern sales annals. The number nearly matched the second-place build of the 2005 Corvette C6 that sold 37,372 copies, but far behind 2007's 40,461 record total. Putting it in historical terms, the 2014 sales record puts their sales at third place in the modern era. The sales record for the generation of Corvettes that ended in 1985 – old era – was 39,729.

Interestingly with manual transmission sales slumping, the demand for manually equipped C7s was up 37 percent as buyers sought the new Chevy seven-speed. Further, buyers wanted white as their first choice and red as their second.

Buyers have apparently been attracted to the C7's new, sleek and angular lines, contrary to the concerns of some when the model was first shown.

The C6 was badly beaten by the financial meltdown of 2008-09, when sales dropped into the teens, so it is unlikely that GM and Chevy will be unhappy with the C6's departure.
