Record Sales And Historic Profit For BMW In 2012, Cautious Expectations For 2013
|   Friday, March 22, 2013
The year 2012 has been a great year for BMW, the Bavarian manufacturer managed to exceed all previous records in terms of profit and sales. The deliveries of cars at a group level increased by 10.6 percent, from 1.66 million units to 1.84 million and the net profit of the company has gone up by 4.4 percent and reached more than 5 billion euros.

Norbert Reithofer, CEO of the BMW Group, expects the upward trend in recent years to positively influence the future development of the company.
"Last year was the best in the history of the BMW Group new records for sales, revenue and profit being achieved. We intend to maintain growth in deliveries in 2013 and are confident of setting new historical scales at the end of the year. "

The BMW boss expects an increase of 8-10 percent of sales figures, but is also very cautious about the financial results for the current year. He says the major investments were made in the development of new models and technologies, as well as expansion or modernization of current production facilities and those will have a hard word to say in 2013. Accordingly, he expects the operating profit to be similar to that in 2012.

The unprecedented ascension of the Bavarian group will be supported by one of the most ambitious calendar of releases in the industry. According to Reithofer, BMW will present in the next two years a record number of 14 models, 10 of them completely new. Only this year we have scheduled a record number of 11 releases.

The company sales have appreciated with 10.6 percent in 2012. In total, the German Group has delivered 1,845,186 cars, more than three quarters of these products under the BMW brand.

More specifically, in the last year, they sold the 1.54 million BMW units, a plus of 11.6 percent compared to the 1.38 million sold a year earlier, the upward trend is supported by the success of the 3 Series models, 5 Series, 6 Series, the X1 and X3.

And the deliveries of Rolls-Royce and Mini have also increased. The British luxury brand sold 3,575 cars, 1 percent more than in 2011 (3,538 units) and the Mini has developed a new absolute record delivering no less than 301,526 units, a 5.8 percent appreciation compared to the previous year. The Countryman has been the main driver of this growth, the city SUV managed to cover 34 percent of the Mini sales, thanks to a significant volume of 102,271 copies.

The motorcycle division of the German Group had the same trend. Motorcycle sales have reached the threshold of 117,109 units (up 3.1 percent), of which 106,358 BMW (up 2 percent) and the remaining 10,751, Husqvarna (up 15.8 percent).

The bestsellers of the BMW models are:
1. The BMW 3 Series (406,752 units, up 5.8 percent)
2. The BMW 5 Series (359,016 units, up 8 percent)
3. The BMW X3 (149,853 units, up 27.1 percent)
4. The BMW X1 (147,776 units, up 16.9 percent)
