Recent Movements in the Automotive Sector around the Globe

The 2013 World Car of the Year finalists has been shortlisted and the list includes some of the best vehicles launched this year. A list of the finalists includes The Audi A3, Mazda CX 5, Mazda 6, Land Rover Range Rover, Mercedes Benz A Class, Porsche Cayman, Porsche Boxter, Peugeot 208, Toyota GT 86, Volvo V40, Volkswagen Golf and the Subaru BRZ. The winner is expected to be announced at the New York Motor Show, scheduled to commence on March 2013.


Chinese car making firm Geely Auto has purchased Manganese Bronze, the firm manufacturing the famous London Black Cab. The production facility will remain in the United Kingdom and this move has secured the future of employees after Manganese Bronze went into administration this October. The firm was facing financial insecurity over the past few years and this move comes as a welcome relief for the employees.

Alfa Romeo recently launched the Quadrifoglio Verde SBK, a limited edition variant of the Mito. The vehicle is powered by a 1.4 liter Multi Air engine displacing 170 BHP and the standard features of the vehicle include air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, all leather interior, rear parking sensors and carbon fiber detailing. Although the first look of the vehicle has not been revealed, the company is confident that the vehicle will attract attention. Priced at £21,595, the Quadrifoglio Verde SBK will be sold exclusively in the United Kingdom and just 28 units are expected to be manufactured.

Renault UK has got a new Chairman as Ken Ramirez has been appointed as its chief. Ken was Nissan's former Area Chief for the Caribbean and Latin America and is fairly experienced in the field. Ken will also be showcasing six new models of the Dacia and Renault this year.

Suzuki has designed a special edition of the Swift super mini although the vehicle will not feature any mechanical upgrades. Tagged the SZ L, the super mini is based on the mid range SZ 3 model and features external changes such as a roof top spoiler, 16 inch alloyed rims, tinted windows, metallic paint and all new cruise control. Overall, the vehicle is expected to be the driver's tool as handling and suspension has been enhanced, making this vehicle fun to drive. The price range for the base model starts at £10,599 and is expected to hit showrooms later this year.

Dodge is planning on adding a new vehicle to its muscle car lineup. The vehicle is expected to be developed on the Challenger R/T and could feature exterior changes. The Challenger R/T is powered by a 5.7 liter diesel V8 engine, displacing 370 BHP along with 410 ft lb of torque. On the external front, some of the modifications could be made to the rims and the 20 inch alloyed rims are expected to be replaced by a 21 inch wheel. A chromed grille and chrome wheels will also be available on request. This is being made by Dodge to attract customers to the Challenger lineup.
