Under the heading Quick Game, we discuss video games in which cars or race are central. We kick off with Metropolis Street Racer from 2000, in which the lake was about how you drove or how fast you rode.

METROPOLIS STREET RACER
Chances are you've never heard of this racing game, but the game Metropolis Street Racer succeeded: Project Gotham Racing. Indeed, "PGR" an acclaimed series on Microsoft's Xbox and Xbox 360. It was however all started with Metropolis Street Racer on the last console Sega - Dreamcast.

"MSR" introduced a new philosophy in the racing genre. Of course it was also this thing to win races and setting the fastest time in practice sessions. More important, however, was earning points by stylish ride: for example, with a graceful instinct or through unscathed to maintain a certain pace.

NISSAN SKYLINE
Metropolis Street Racer also had a remarkable selection of cars. No Ferraris, Porsches or Lamborghinis (such as Need for Speed games of that time), but Toyota, Alfa Romeo and TVR. Sporty models that were certainly not positioned at the top of the market, but also it was really accessible for players of the game.

So you started in the game with a Mazda MX-5, MG F or Toyota MR2. Skilled drivers were able to work up to owners of an Alfa Romeo GTV, Mazda RX-7 FD or Nissan Skyline GT-R R34.

Also in terms of circuits this game distinguished itself from the competition. There were no permanent or completely fictional jobs, but loops out by the virtual reconstructed streets of Tokyo, London and San Francisco. Moreover, taking into account the time of day: you drove Netherlands afternoon your laps in the Japanese capital, it was there late at night.

FORZA HORIZON
Metropolis Street Racer was not a commercial success after its launch in 2000. Besides that the game only released on the Dreamcast also had the development taken too long. Nevertheless brought the game developer Bizarre Creations (now again a few years back gone defunct) have the necessary success. Microsoft gave the studio after all, then the command to Project Gotham Racing. Today the heritage of MSR lives on in the Forza Horizon games, which will soon be published the third part. In that game, you can directly earn points by driving style.
