Qashqai's Platform To Underpin Renault Espace in 2015
|   Friday, July 11, 2014
Between cup-holders and children seats, in the world of MPVs Renault has been a top competitor for a long time. Therefore it has provided some of the most reasonable cars for family oriented drivers.
Espace is the oldest French model, being first sent to production lines in 2003. People at Renault wanted to replace it with a new car and even prepared a concept 4 years ago. However, the bad economic conditions in Europe's car market prevented its release.
Not anymore.

Renault Espace, the French brand's large MPV, will get a new generation in 2015 and will be equipped with a modified version of the new CMF platform of the Renault-Nissan group.

The respective platform is modular and debuted in 2013 on the models Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Rogue, the latter not being sold on the European market. The CMF platform from Renault-Nissan is the French-Japanese equivalent of the MQB platform belonging to Volkswagen or the EMP2 platform from Peugeot-Citroen.

Just like the above mentioned platforms, it has the benefit of being lighter than the ones it replaces, supports multiple technologies and new engines, many previously unreleased on the market, and can share many components between models.

Due to the new platforms launched in 2013, the Renault-Nissan group increased savings by 7 percent over last year, rising from 2.69 billion euro to 2.87 billion euro. In 2014, the Franco-Japanese alliance wants to achieve savings of 3.5 billion euro thanks to this platform and other measures made to streamline their network. By 2016, Renault wants to save 4.3 billion euro per year, due to group level collaboration with Nissan and Daimler.

With this modular platform the Renault-Nissan Alliance wants to catch up with Germans from the Volkswagen Group and the Japanese from Toyota Motor Company. Like other manufacturers that have focused on the Old Continent, Renault had a decrease in sales, but this was offset by the fact that Dacia has been successful in every market in which it was sold, and Nissan sales are increasing from year to year due to its SUV range.

Until then, Renault will unveil the production version of the first model in the range Initiale Paris in October at the Paris Motor Show. This model is expected to be the Espace's replacement, but representatives refused to comment on speculation about what type of car they will launch, although they presented in Frankfurt a year ago a premium crossover originally called PARIS, whose design suggest a future large MPV.

Initially, the entire "Initiale Paris" project was seen as a top equipment version that is offered on certain models in the range, but the company's strategy, led by Tavares, the former number two at Renault-Nissan, decided that there are too few top versions to transform the Initiale Paris into a profitable brand.

The number of horses developed by the model's engine is currently unknown, but we do know it has 400 Nm of torque, and that it may be 25 percent more fuel efficient than diesel engines of comparable performance. The Renault Espace's emissions will probably be 40 g / km CO2, less than other diesel engines.
