Preview Of The Lovable 2013 MINI Clubvan
|   Monday, June 25, 2012
Over the years, the MINI name has known an extraordinary growth spurt. It wasn't all that long when everything MINI was limited to the Cooper and Convertible. Of course, a few variants for each model existed (3 for each), but today we can count quite a few separate models, like the Clubman, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster. The latest addition to that list will be called the Clubvan.

This vehicle will mark a premiere in MINI's history: the Clubvan will be the first commercial vehicle the company produced.
Its goal is to provide lower tax rates along other traditional advantages brought by that type of vehicle. Whether or not it will succeed in accomplishing those goals remains to be seen.

Another interesting aspect is the speed with which it was developed. Since this April, we have known the Clubvan would enter production, thus putting to rest those who claimed the concept shown at the Geneva Auto show was just that, a concept. After a closer look at the van, we find quite a lot of similarities with the Clubman. Basically, it is a clubman stripped of rear seats and rear side windows.

There are some other things about it worth mentioning. For example, we will not get a John Cooper Works variant, or S for that matter. You will have to settle for the stock version, which gets the 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine rated at 121 horsepower. You can choose between a 6 speed manual transmission and an automatic box with the same speed count.

The cargo area gets complementary blocked-out rear side windows with interior polycarbonate reinforcements, the rear doors see tinted glass, a flat load floor, carpeted side walls, 12 volt sockets in the cargo area, plus a cargo-attachment system in the back. The cargo area and passenger zones are separated by an aluminum and stainless steel mesh.

Total cargo space stands at 30.3 cubic feet, with a width of 44.8 inches and a height of 40.1 inches. The van is able to support loads of up to 816 lbs.
Other than that, there are no sensible modifications from a regular Clubman. Wait, we were wrong; unlike other MINIs, this one will have a limited range of customizable options. It's only natural seeing the Clubvan's destination is more utilitarian than other models. Exterior colors will be limited to just 4 choices: Pepper White, Ice Blue, British Racing Green, and Midnight Black. The latter 2 will be metallic hues.

On the inside we will get Cosmos fabric upholstery with black interior and Fine White Silver trim. The seats can be customized with sports seats wrapped in cloth or leather, alternative trim strips, as well as a number of interior upholstery looks and materials.

As far as accessories are concerned, the Clubvan will not be a letdown; alomst everything MINI has to offer for its cars can be found here too. In case you don't know what that means: automatic climate control, navigation, MINI Connected with a 6.5 inch LCD screen, park distance sensors.

Expect the car in shops this fall.
