Preview Of The Gorgeous 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT

If you loved the old car, you will adore the new and improved version of it. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT contains a number of updates that reach every possible area of the car. Of course, the GT wasn't present there from the beginning, but the added power, recalibrated transmission and more dynamic suspension settings are sure to silence those skeptical fellows.

The GT3 version of the SLS AMG which is used in various forms of motorsports was the role-model for this car, and the experience gathered there has no doubt been put to good use.
Also, you can expect the new SLS AMG GT to come in 2 forms: convertible and traditional coupe.
Now, the aforementioned experience has been used wisely in that the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT can easily participate in any competition with no prior modification. Of course, you will not have a winning car, but respectable performances can be achieved; if you want to win, get your hands on its true racing cousin.

The main suspect for those potentially beautiful results is the engine. We can still identify the good old V8 displacing 6.3 liters, but now it has been tuned to deliver a bit more juice. It is capable of pumping 583 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Even if the torque figure remains unchanged, that is not an impediment at all. The car can go 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds on its way to the top speed of 197 mph; it could have gone if not for the electronic restrains.

All the power would mean nothing, if a good transmission system weren't installed. Those shoes are filled by the AMG Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox with 7 speeds. This unit has been overhauled so that when the M manual mode is engaged, shifting time is reduced. That was only possible thanks to AMG engineers experimenting with newly developed gear change logic and optimized transmission control; that is how going through gears now tales less time than before. It gets better: the automatic double-declutching function when downshifting is more pronounced in the SLS AMG GT, contributing to faster than ever shifting. That feature is made reality because a modified engine mapping profile changes the engine torque delivered when in manual mode.

A new AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension system is installed, as well. Now we have some specially tuned electronically-adjustable dampers to go around the twin aluminum wishbones mounted all over the car. This should make the suspension stiffer.

The Sports Mode is the star of the show. This is what enables the GT to make lap times shorter than the normal AMG SLS can deliver. The AMG Drive Unit is what controls everything related to this function. You can find in the central console; it's a control module encased in carbon fiber.

Red painted brake calipers, unique 20-inch wheels, darkened lights and a glossy back finish will make sure the car stands out, and the GT badging on the rear decklid will tell even profanes what they are gazing upon.
