Porsche Unveils the all new Porsche Cayman S 2.7
|   Sunday, February 17, 2013
The all new Porsche Cayman features a 2.7 liter engine mated to a manual transmission system and Porsche has made this vehicle extensively for the car enthusiasts. The PDK dual clutch transmission system has been replaced with the manual transmission and this is being hailed as the smartest move to be made by Porsche in the past few years. The Cayman S is the base model of the Cayman, priced below the £40,000 mark and the engine displaces 730 cc.

Porsche has upgraded the engine and the new motor produces an additional 50 BHP, hence taking the tally to 271 BHP. The 2.7 is however heavier by 10 kg and that could have been a downside, if not for the performance enhancement. The vehicle is also 4 mm narrower than its predecessor.

The rims and tires used on both the models are identical however the gear ratio on the Cayman S is sharper than its predecessor. Without doubt, the Cayman S is as fun to drive as its predecessor and the perfect power to weight ratio combined with the proper shift ratios make the vehicle perfect to cruise in. The stick shift makes the difference and this helps maintain the price point as well as attract additional customers.

While the power displacement is equal in both the vehicles, the peak torque of 8000 RPM is the highest on both vehicles. The handling is quite smooth and the vehicle revs better and harder than before. The increase in power displacement neutralizes with the additional weight hence keeping the speeds of both vehicles at par with one another. Porsche had designed the Cayman to be the perfect sports car and it has perfectly honored its purpose.

The vehicle rides well, handles effectively and sounds great and is a visual treat on road. The first generation Cayman was considered to be low on emotion but with the launch of the latest vehicle, Porsche made sure that the people liked what they saw and drove. The Cayman is a very efficient sports car and is quite refined, even by Porsche standard.

The vehicle steers efficiently, features perfect handling and features no competition from any other vehicle at present. The body movement is quite stable and there is no sign of body roll or excessive wheel spin whatsoever. This mid engine vehicle has a surprisingly high level of controllability even though some people feel the presence of under steer. On circuit, the Cayman performs better than a Lotus Evora and the electric steering system could have been replaced by hydraulic support.

Although the new Cayman S seems to be a great prospect on road, consuming less fuel and emitting lesser amounts of CO2 and is cheaper as compared to the Cayman. However, all these facts do not make up for the fact that the Cayman is a better ride in all aspects. However, for people who like the 911 but cannot afford the vehicle, the Cayman S maybe the perfect alternative. It is smart, looks good and provides standard performance.
