Porsche unveils the all new 911 Carrera Spider
|   Sunday, October 28, 2012
The true all season sports vehicle, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet has been confirmed by Porsche and the vehicle is all set for an official 2013 launch. The exterior is like all Porsche Carrera vehicles. However, the proportions are larger than most other vehicles from Porsche. The wheel arch has been increased by 22 mm and the vehicle is 560 kg heavier than its predecessor even though an additional four wheel drive system has been installed in the vehicle.

The cabriolet and coupe version of the vehicle has been announced and the vehicles are expected by the beginning of 2013. The Carrera uses a 3.4 liter 354 BHP producing flat six engine and an optional 3.8 liter engine producing 394 BHP is also available. A seven speed manual transmission system has been mated to the engine to channel power to the axle and this is a dual clutch transmission system.

The PDK transmission is an innovative system and this is being used by Porsche on its vehicles on a wide scale. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH comes in around 4.3 seconds, down from 4.5 seconds. The vehicle also sports adaptive dampers with C4S as a standard feature. The vehicle features a drop in overall height of 10 mm and this enhances the stiffness of the suspension.

The Porsche 4S is a rear wheel drive vehicle and hence it sports a thrill of driving the vehicle. Driving this vehicle is a breeze and it offers the thrill of driving at all instances. 911 owners can connect to the feel of this vehicle and the vehicle is very stable at corners and the advanced traction control makes driving this vehicle quite fun.

The cabriolet weighs an additional 70 kg over the coupe and this is due to the addition of the soft roof system which takes up much room. The vehicle is very smooth over asphalt and is not meant for odd road trips. On track, this is one of the best Porsches even built and the company has done a commendable job.

The 911 Spider is meant purely for the fun of driving. Priced at 96,619 Pounds, this vehicle is not among the costliest of the convertibles that we have in the market at the current time, but it definitely is one of the best when it comes to performance. The vehicle displaces 325 ft lb @ 3500 RPM and 394 BHP @ 4000 RPM. Peak torque is obtained in the middle range and this vehicle feels quite fast in this range.

With a top speed of 183 MPH and 0 – 60 MPH acceleration time of 3.5 seconds, this is one of the fastest vehicles that we have in the price range. The 7 speed automatic double clutch transmission system is a welcome relief on this vehicle over its predecessors and this enhances the overall driving experience of the vehicle. Weight in close to 1545 kg, this is not one of the lightest Carreras ever produced, but it definitely is one of the fastest.
