Porsche Unveils the 2014 Turbo and Turbo S this Week
|   Thursday, September 26, 2013
Porsche has just revealed their latest version of the 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet this week, prior to their official debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show commencing November this year. Convertibles followed just months after the coupe versions based on Porsche's latest 911 platform. Porsche has gone ahead of themselves this time with these vehicles as the Turbo and Turbo S are based on a wider wheelbase.

Although their signature bi plane structure has been kept intact, designing a vehicle on a larger wheel base had its share of challenges as handling could not be compromised upon.
Moreover, designing trends such as aerodynamics, ergonomics and smooth drivability could not be compromised. The engineering and designing teams however have worked efficiently to solve these problems. Therefore, the latest breed of 911 are superior to their predecessors as they sport better drive dynamics as well as additional cabin space for more comfort.

A lightweight magnesium chassis and body frame is now being used on these cars while fabric roof plating has helped keep body weight in check. Superior flexibility is of primary importance and that has been taken care of abruptly with this vehicle. Porsche claims that its latest breed of vehicles will reach 0 – 60 MPH within 3.2 seconds although we are yet to officially test these figures on road.

Considering the fact that Porsche stands for reliability and quality, these figures should be justifiable as Porsche would not want to lose public trust and confidence. Being a convertible, the roof can be automatically adjusted at a maximum speed of 31 MPH while this car sports a top speed of 198 MPH.

Being a convertible, it is a few seconds slower than its coupe variant, while its 3.8 liter straight six engine displaces 513 BHP. This is sufficient to keep this car pinned on to the road. Advanced Traction Control ensures safe travel and efficient high speed cornering. Track performance is at its best while decent on road performance ensures overall high scores on the leader board. Porsche claims advanced fuel efficiency on this car while estimates suggest an average of 23.8 MPG.

This is sufficient considering super car stature even though 911 Turbo and Turbo S is not officially super car material. It is a Porsche nonetheless and hence it is a class apart. Porsche designs efficient mid life crisis vehicles and the 911 definitely scores big on that card. You can finally enjoy free wind in your hair while you cruise around in style, alone.

That is the point of owing a Porsche cabriole. Reliable, suave and effortlessly smooth, these are general Porsche characteristics and the latest generation sports them too. Increased cabin space is a definite advantage and we are really impressed with what Porsche has managed to achieve with resources at their disposal.

Structural reinforcement has been given special care and attention as convertibles are known to be sloppy structures in general. Therefore, Porsche has surely managed to get our attention. We will just have to see if customers find it appealing as well.
