Porsche showcases the Panamera Sports Turismo
|   Monday, December 10, 2012
Porsche has revealed the first pictures of the Panamera Sports Turismo even though the car is still in the concept stages. This car is a work of true designing genius and features a lower and wider wheel base as compared to its predecessor. The vehicle has a longer bonnet, muscular haunches and tapered glass house and is 4950 mm x 1990 mm x 1401 mm, length / breadth / height. This makes the car approximately 20 mm shorter, 20 mm lower and 60 mm wider than the current model of the Panamera.

This Panamera is a hybrid and the battery needs a two and half hours of charge to regain full strength. The engine has a powerful yet refined note once the car is powered and the responsiveness of the engine and the overall smoothness has to be felt to believe. Even though this vehicle is still in its concept stages and no mass production plans have been finalized as of yet, the smoothness of the entire vehicle is amazing.

Starting from the transmission to the steering, the vehicle feels complete in all aspects. The electronic assist steering system further smoothens out the ride and is quite precise. The ride on the dummy car was however stiff in low speed as this lacks a practical suspension system, however this is expected to be altered in the final vehicle. Despite the vehicle's larger than life dimensions, it does not feel heavy or out of proportion and controls quite well. Presence of under steer or wheel spin is absent and the ride quality is quite smooth once the vehicle crosses the 5000 RPM mark.

This is an ideal four door sedan, capable of taking on most two door race cars and this has been made possible only due to precise engineering from Porsche. The vehicle features a 3.0 liter turbo charged V6 engine and the deep exhaust note is quite appealing. Even though this could be considered a bit too much as per the standards of the educated class, a driving enthusiast will love it. Although the top speed, acceleration timing, fuel efficiency another details are not available as of yet, it takes approximately six seconds to reach the 60 MPH mark.

The Panamera Sports Turismo is expected to be priced around 70,000 Pounds and Porsche expects the vehicle to be available in the market post 2016. Porsche is expected to launch a petrol variant initially although nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Porsche plans to launch a Panamera coupe, convertible, hatch back, estate and lift back in the near future. The acceleration of the Panamera Sports Turismo is rather appealing and the heavily sculptured aerodynamically designed exterior has a huge part to play in that regard.

Even though this vehicle weighs approximately two tons, it is rather quick for its size. Experts claim that the top speed is close to 190 MPH and an official confirmation is awaited. Porsche is tight lipped about the launch of this vehicle as of yet and followers will have to wait till the authorities change heart.
