Porsche Panamera To Get New Generation In 2016
|   Sunday, November 30, 2014
Porsche Panamera will receive a replacement in the course of 2016, and it is scheduled to have a completely new platform with redesigned bodywork made of aluminum.

The new platform is called MSB and will have rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations and benefit from numerous innovations designed to provide a lower mass, being made of a mixture of six materials, from magnesium and aluminum, to different steel alloys. This will accommodate a new range of V6 and V8 engines, which will provide more power and will be more fuel efficient than the units they replace.

"Weight is our enemy and we are looking for the same percentage of aluminum as on the new 911. If you do nothing, the car becomes heavier and heavier. The battery, cooling, plumbing, wiring, electric motor and ECUs add 320 kg to the 918 Spyder. Take it out and the car would weigh close to 1300 kg, including liquids. It would be the lightest supercar in the world. Comfort always equals weight, too." stated Wolfgang Hatz Porsche technical head.

The new Panamera generation is expected to have a mass of about 1800 kg due to the new platform, and that despite superior equipment compared to its predecessor and improved body resistance to provide more dynamism and added safety.

Compared to the current generation, the future Panamera will have a higher wheelbase, but will have a body length similar to that on sale today. That means a shortening of the consoles, that decreases the distance between the places where the wheel ends and where the body ends. To achieve this and to mark the change of Panamera generations, Porsche will apply a redesigned coupe design to its four-door model.

Chief designer of the brand, Michael Maure, promises that the future look on the Panamera will remain "polarizing", and will further divide viewers into two groups: those who appreciate the look of the Panamera and those who are not attracted to this model.

Michael Mauer also told journalists at the Paris Motor Show last month that "You have to recognize it is the new one, but as well recognize that it is the successor. So the car will look different. It will look better, but you will immediately see that it is the Panamera."

Porsche is also working on a completely changed interior of the Panamera. They plan a reduction in the number of buttons on board, especially on the center console, a trend in the current design of automotive interiors. Some voices suggested the possibility of launching new body versions in the Panamera range, which could be a coupe and a Shooting Brake. They have not been confirmed by German officials, which are currently working hard on finalizing the production version of the second generation Panamera, scheduled to debut somewhere in mid-2016.

Wolfgang Hatz said that "At the moment we are on full load, even overload, so let's do the homework which we have to do. We have had a great deal of development in the past four years. Now we have to stabilize this."
