Porsche Macan S and Macan Turbo reviewed
|   Friday, July 11, 2014
Porsche is going to release Macan S and Macan Turbo for the year 2015. This is going to add to a lineup of SUVs that priory contained only Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Why Cayenne was a bigger car and a bit expensive for commoners to grab hold of, Macan fills this gap.

Porsche's extension of the lineup is mainly to attract customers in United States. Authorities at the company are quite happy with their sales figures from 2012 and 2013 and plan to get even better results with Macan S and Macan Turbo.
A few journalists had first hand experiencing of riding it to check on road performance.

Entry price for Porsche Macan is at $50,000. However, this is only the entry price, and there are a huge number of options that can be installed, some of them absolutely essential, which requires investment of additional dollars. So the price of Macan S comes up to between $65,000 and $70,000 while Turbo is about $90,000 to $100,000.

This SUV is designed to provide a huge amount of boot space. It has a cozy interior, but feels like a space shuttle with huge number of buttons adorning the center console, steering wheels and a major portion of the front side. There is an opportunity to manually interact with and control almost all functions of these cars.

It has been beautifully designed as well, exterior wise. The rear portion with 3D taillights and a curvier look is being called ‘magic hips'. It has a wraparound hood that extends to wheel arches and even down below that. There are other wonderful design aspects that make it an ideally sized SUV which can be good both for on road experience as well as off road weekend getaways.

There has been no compromise with power as well. Macan S gets a 3 liter V6 engine which is capable of producing 340 hp at 5,500 to 6,500 rotations per minute. Turbo gets a 3.6 liter variant of the same engine and rolls out 400 hp at 6,000 rotations per minute. Both of them are fitted with a seven speed PDK transmission system. It is a dual clutch semi automatic transmission.

While high speeds for Macan S is 156 miles per hour, the same for turbo is 164 miles per hour. Similarly, Macan S can do 0-60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds and Turbo can do it in 4.6 seconds. However, fuel economy remains same for both, delivering 17 miles per gallon on city roads and 23 on highways.

Now to the numerous options that can be added to make entry price of $50,000 go higher and higher. There is a possibility of upgrading to air suspension for a race car like feel for a few thousand dollars. A torque Vector Plus package from Porsche can be added for a thousand dollars or more. Then there are entertainment options like Bose Surround Sound system and much more.
So it is going to be a good buy if and when you plan to buy it.
