|   Thursday, July 19, 2012
The 2012 Porsche Boxter S officially made its entry into showrooms across Ireland and Britain this week. The Boxter S is a new generation roadster and is a treat for all driving enthusiasts. The Boxter features an all new light weight body frame, a new six cylinder flat petrol engine with direct fuel injection system, new body work, revised chassis structure and exclusive styling.

The new Boxter is exactly what every convertible should be.
It is a mid engine car and combines smart performance with agile handling capabilities. The car features crisp transmission and a gullible power to weight ratio.

The new Boxter features 60 mm longer wheel base and is 35 kg lighter than the previous Porsche Boxter and has a wider tire and rear axle as compared to the earlier model. The new Boxter is more agile, has higher acceleration, greater top speed and provides more fuel efficiency than the previous model and is hence highly desirable.

These qualities separate the new Boxter from its predecessor and it sets its own benchmark in the category. The exterior modifications on the Boxter include a lower roof line, forward shifted wind screen and a meaner front grille.

These design cues have been borrowed from the legendary Porsche 718 RS and the 918 Spyder. The recently unveiled Carrera GT also sports similar design features. The central electronics control of the car gives the driver, full control of the electronics of the car.

At the helm of the Porsche Boxter is a six cylindered, fuel injected, charismatic engine which fires up the car. The 3.4 L engine propels the Boxter S from 0 – 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, almost a second earlier than its predecessor.

The Boxter S has a feature rich interior, with an automatic start / stop indicator, sports mode, remote controlled roof operation, CD player and a dedicated audio system, 7 inch LED touch screen, MP3 connectivity and a 3 years warranty.

The Boxter S features 19 inch alloy rims, leather upholstery, Xenon head lamps apart from the sporty 3.4 L engine. The 3.4 L engine is technically built of the Carrera GT and it produces a grand total of 315 Hp.

The Boxter S features a 6 speed manual transmission on the standard vehicle. However, a 7 speed automatic transmission is also available as an optional feature. The advanced transmission of the Boxter S helps the driver to extract optimum performance from the engine.

The suspension is also re tuned and the Boxter S can attack corners with renewed confidence. It is perfect for the track and is great for daily usage as well. The Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe or PDK transmission as it is more popularly known is a revolutionary invention and this makes gear shifting an easy task, even for the learners.

Porsche capture the roadster market with the launch of the Boxter series and it hopes to retain the crown with the Boxter S. Initial response to the S has been great till date and Porsche is hopeful of considerable sales figures.
