Porsche Launches Hybrid Shooting-Brake
|   Friday, November 02, 2012
Porsche reviled their Shooting-Brake model of the Panamera franchise the Porsche Panamera Sports Turismo which is also a concept car, in the Paris Motor Show 2012. Now the first thing comes to mind is what a Shooting-Brake is. Well it is a term related to car body pattern.

In early 19th century a vehicle which carries a shooting party, was being called Shooting-Brake which was a British term. But in present days the name is being recited with luxury coupe and estate vehicles used by hunting parties and other sports persons.
It became different forms of vehicles types linked as wagons and estates.

Porsche unveiled the Panamera in the 2009 Shanghai International Auto Show. It is a saloon type car having 4 doors. The car's engine is in front and it is a rear wheel drive vehicle. The four wheel drive version of the Panamera is also available in the market. In 2011 Porsche pitched the diesel and hybrid model of the Panamera.

The diesel version has a 3.0 liter V6 followed by the hybrid which is modified by the supercharger. The Turbo version has a 4.8 liter V8 twin turbo engine. The diesel and hybrid have an 8-speed transmission and the 4S, Turbo and the Panamera 4 versions have 7speed PDK duel-clutch transmission.

The new version Shooting-Brake model is a bit different. The front side is identical to the Panamera but the rear side is not the same. The Porsche kept the roof horizontal and added a carbon spoiler to the Panamera Sports Turismo. Then a windscreen is adjusted which is sharply juts out from the body to meet the taillights.

The LED tail lights create a 3D effect itself. The sleek lines on the body work give the car an awesome look. The Sport Turismo has a width of 1990mm. But it is more in length with respect to the standard Panamera and also a bit lower. Its length is 4950mm and height is 1401 mm. Despite the new rear the Sports Turismo got some other changes too.

The quad four point LED headlights makes it look much cooler and the two camera fitted in the air outlets in both sides helps with the video display in the driver cockpit. The newly repainted green brake calipers and the logo badges written e-hybrid gives a fine finish display of aristocracy.
The interior is likely the same as the other Panameras with a bright LED screen is placed in the place of traditional gauges which show the speed, navigation and other information. It also shows images from the cameras replaced by the mirrors. The car has a 333 hp supercharged 3.0 liter V6 gasoline engine under the hood, but the electric motor which used to produce 47 hp now produce 95 hp.

A larger lithium-ion battery of 9.4 kWh with plug in external port is available which makes it a plugin hybrid. The car can run only in electricity at a speed of 81 mph up to 19 miles, and in 3 hours the battery can be recharged. It can achieve 0-60 in less than 6 seconds.
