Porsche Cayman Might Have A Powerful New Version Called GT4
|   Saturday, May 24, 2014
Porsche is working on a new top version for the Cayman model. According to the American journalists from MotorTrend, it will be called Cayman GT4.

The top performance version could reach Porsche showrooms in no more than three years. At this point, the most powerful version is the Cayman GTS, freshly launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year. If the rumors are confirmed, the future Cayman GT4 will be more aggressive and more powerful than the current GTS.

The price of the future Cayman GT4 could start from 100,000 euro and for that money it will receive a performance PDK gearbox, derived from that used on the current 911 GT3. Regarding the propellant used by the future GT4 details are not yet known. It is possible that the Boxster model will receive the same treatment with a future top version using the RS Spyder logo.

The same source mentions the 700 hp versions of the Panamera and Porsche 911 Turbo S models. Both of these could use the hybrid technology currently found on the 918 Spyder model, and shall enter showrooms in 2017.

Currently, the most powerful Porsche model that money can buy, for about one million dollars, develops 570 horsepower. We are talking about the Panamera Turbo S, closely followed by the 911 Turbo S model with some 560 hp.

A power level of 700 hp is normal for models like the Lamborghini Aventador or Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. But Porsche still cannot compete in this area. It is therefore looking forward to 2017. The hybridized versions rated for 700 hp and above, the Panamera Turbo S and 911 Turbo S, will be able to finally compete in that segment.

Alternate propulsion systems might be used in them because some European centers will require zero emission zones (Zez). Within these areas the internal combustion engine will be banned. In these conditions, plug-in hybrids seem to be a very good investment.

BMW has already prepared for that eventuality with the i8 PHEV. Therefore, it would be sensible that the top and most expensive versions of every Porsche model will be hybridized.

The Cayenne Coupe and Panamera Sport Turismo, for now at least, expect pricing to kick off at 185,000 dollars and go up. Since we are talking about part-time electric vehicles, ones that have a power of 725 hp and more, this price is not overly high. Also, we can expect the Cayenne Coupe to be under the Cayenne Sport Turismo trademark, just like BMW has both a 3 and 5 Series Gran Turismo, and a series 4 and 6 Gran Coupe.

Engines on the new GT4 could be revealed in June in France. If the 919 Hybrid will work very well, and will win the 24 Hours from Le Mans race, Porsche is expected to try and build on that success by promoting a turbocharged 4-cylinder unit and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The 919 Hybrid model still has problems, but the GT4 could keeps a flat six, but with hybrid assist.
