Porsche Boss Plans on Adding a Seventh Vehicle to Their Official Lineup
|   Friday, February 28, 2014
Matthias Müller, Porsche Boss, has finally spoken about the company's plans to launch a new vehicle in their six car string lineup. This mysterious vehicle is currently under development, while plans to make an official launch are currently underway. Müller claims that this will allow Porsche to make a major event each year. Details regarding this seventh model are currently unknown, although it is expected to balance their current lineup.

Müller thinks that a seven car lineup would look good, as most vehicles have a seven year life span.
Porsche's recently unveiled petrol electric drive train has attracted a lot of potential customers. Hence, they plan on developing additional vehicles based on this platform. Their 918 Spyder is a huge hit among current car fanatics, while this vehicle is a major breakthrough by Porsche.

We are currently unaware of what the seventh vehicle will be, as Müller is currently tightlipped about design plans. Insiders have however hinted at a mid-sized saloon, to take on potential rivals, such as BMW's 5 Series. Board members are currently meeting frequently, behind closed doors, to discuss this potential creation, although initial drawings are being made to figure out what would cater to the needs of the global population.

This new vehicle could push up Porsche's global sales to 300,000 units annually. It could be based on their all new MLB platform, while parent firm Volkswagen, is working on all possibilities. The Volkswagen Group describes their MLB platform as a major breakthrough, which is currently being used to develop vehicles such as Audi's A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7 and the A8.

Porsche's Macan is also based on this platform, while Audi's next generation A4 will also be based on it, when it launches next year. While their Macan was initially based on the first generation MLB platform, current generation models, are based on the second generation MLB. This new vehicle could also share drive train features such as transmission and a four wheel drive train, although we are unaware of what the Board has in mind.

Although Müller has finalized plans on working on a new vehicle, final confirmations rest with Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen's Chairman. Porsche could come up with a high ranking vehicle, to rival Ferrari's 458 Italia, which has been dominating its market segment for quite some time now. Porsche tried to rival premium segment European car makers with its 918, although this vehicle failed to make an impact as great as originally anticipated. Hence, plans to launch a higher end variant, is currently underway.

Porsche is currently working on a Turbo S and GTS variants of their Macan, while these vehicles should be ready for launch soon. We will bring live updates as and when it happens. Porsche's current lineup consists of the Boxter, Cayman, Panamera, Cayenne, Macan and the 918. Porsche is working on its all new hybrid system, which could be seen on future production models too.
