Porsche 911 Carrera Facelift: New Turbocharged Engines And Visual Upgrades
|   Wednesday, October 07, 2015
Stronger, faster, more fuel efficient than before, the new Porsche 911 Carrera just arrived. Porsche officially presented the 911 Carrera facelift. It is an important time for the current 991 generation. Thus the car is equipped with a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine, and it became faster and also more fuel efficient by 12 percent.
The current generation of the Porsche 911 Carrera was launched in 2011. After just four years, the German manufacturer from Stuttgart decided it was time for a refresh of the range.
So the Porsche 911 Carrera receives a visual facelift, but more importantly, all engines are turbocharged.

The power increased by 20 hp, depending on the variant, but Porsche abandoned the 3.4 liter aspirated boxer engine in favor of a twin turbo boxer unit with a 3.0 liter displacement. This engine provides 370 hp and 450 Nm of torque, for the Carrera version, while the Carrera S receives the same motor, but in a version that delivers 420 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

As in the past, the transmission may be a manual gearbox or PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Equipped with PDK transmission and Sport Chrono Package, the new Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 60 mph) in 4.2 seconds and the Carrera S Coupe version needs only 3.9 seconds. The maximum speed that can be achieved is 295 km / h (183.30 miles per hour) respectively 308 km / h (191.38 miles per hour).
Despite the increased performance, the new engines are more efficient. Fuel consumption has dropped and Porsche announced an average consumption of 7.7 liters per 100 km for the 911 Carrera S with PDK box.

Regarding design, the Porsche 911 Carrera facelift receives new optical daylight blocks, restyled rims and engine cowl, it has a different ventilation grille so the slots are vertically arranged. Also, the external door handles have been redesigned, as well as the rear lights. Those at Porsche have not released inside images of the new model, but we can expect significant changes.

Porsche has confirmed that the new model will use a new multimedia system called PCM (Porsche Communication Management System). It will use a 7 inch touch screen that recognizes gestures. The system uses the Apple CarPlay standard and the navigation system has been improved by integrating Google Earth and Google Streetview. The company notes that information about possible traffic jams will be sent to the driver in real time. In the armrest we have a space for charging smartphones.

Also, all 911 Carrera models receive as standard equipment the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) system that comes with new shock absorbers. This system allows active suspension adjustment. The models equipped with the Sport Chrono package will have a redesigned steering wheel and a new rotary knob through which you can select driving modes: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. Versions with the PDK gearbox will have a Sport Response button, which prepares the drivetrain for maximum acceleration for 20 seconds.

The new model will arrive in showrooms in Germany starting December this year, and prices there start at 95,600 euros.
