Poor Sales Paint Target on Doors of 10 Models
|   Tuesday, September 02, 2014
Although car sales continue to percolate right along, there are some models that just haven't been able to catch on with the buying public. That's the common thread among them – poor to nearly nonexistent sales.

There's no rhyme or reason to it, they range from microcars to full-fledged luxury machines, yet they all have one thing in common, it's not likely you will see them after this or, at best, next model year.

To find them, the staff of Motor Trend sat down with the listings from GoodCarBadCar.
et and poked around a bit to find the 20 cars most likely to be going away after this year due to poor sales. This is a 2014 model list as 2013 and 2012 models have been eliminated. Due to length, we're listing only the top 10 here. The next 10 will be next week. So, without further ado, here's the list, rated in order of sales.

The Mitsu I-MEV – Aside from assiduously poor styling – it has been called the "ugly duckling" of the road – and low mileage return per charge – only 50 mpc (miles per charge), there's nothing to keep this vehicle from doing its crash and burn. 114 sold through July.
The M-B CL-Class – This one is a contradiction. It is a two-door version of the popular S-Series sedan with all of the goodies, power and handling, yet it hasn't caught on and it doesn't look like it will. It will be replaced by a two-door S-Series in 2015. 154 sold through July.
The M-B SLS AMG – Not a big-seller to begin with, the super-car SLS is getting a bit old in style. It will be replaced by a new model in 2016 and continues in the lineup for only one more year. Besides its super-car status, the $224,000 pricetag is a real turnoff. 178 sold through July.
The Dodge Viper SRT V10 – Maybe it's the price -- $109,000 and change – or maybe it's the styling more weird loops and curves per square foot, but the Viper SRT V-10 is about to drive into the sunset. Perhaps it's the 8.4L V-10, the largest engine available and the lack of an automatic, offered by its prime and less expensive competitor, the Corvette. 400 sold through July.
Audi R8 – Soft sales are surprising for this otherwise solid supercar. Perhaps it's due to the fact a replacement is coming at the beginning of model year 2016 that has people holding off. 475 sold through July.
Cadillac ELR – If you peel the skin off the ELR, you'll find a Chevy Volt underneath. Perhaps it is the high price that has buyers staying away but there are incentives galore and a $7,500 tax break, it should be doing better. Nicely styled, sales have been flat. 578 sold through July.
Nissan GT-R – This model has been around a long time, in car terms. Unveiled in 2008, the performance GT-R is just dated and sales have turned around. It will be replaced late in 2015. 651 sold through July.
Subaru Tribeca – Despite its all-wheel-drive, Tribeca can't pull itself out of its sales slump. It is gone after this year due to a combination of many minor issues and its plain-looking outline. 648 sold through July.
Kia K900 – After a strong start, this competitor of the luxury sedan Lexus LS 460 has seen sales fall off. It has done well and the lines are clean but haven't sold strongly. Expect sales to pickup. 948 sold through July.
Jaguar XK – Imagine a vehicle that has been the victim of its own stablemate the F-Type, well that's the Jaguar XK. First introduced in 2007, it has been struggling of late. A replacement is due next year. 957 sold through July.
