Pitching BMW's M4 vs. the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG
|   Tuesday, May 27, 2014
BMW's new fifth generation M4 has the potential to be considered among the best M Series vehicles of all time. However, it still faces stiff competition from arch rival Mercedes Benz, and their C63 AMG. However, if the fifth gen turbo charged M4 cannot cope up to the large hearted aging Mercedes Benz, then BMW might as well quit manufacturing performance vehicles.

Priced at £56,635, BMW has priced the M4 quite competitively against Mercedes Benz's £57,000 price tag.
This should help them fare well in class. Now, what are the differences between these two hot heads and which one is superior? We find out!

The latest M4 is quite similar to its aging cousin – the M3 – in terms of technical specifications. It however, has quite a few features that make it performance friendly, on paper at least! An important point, worth mentioning, is the use of light weight materials for constructing the exterior shell. This keeps down weight till a certain level, enhancing performance by a huge margin.

Improvements have been made to its head lamp cluster and rear end section, along with minor upgrades to side panels. Power train upgrades make this vehicle desirable, as BMW has worked on their six cylindered V8 engine block, which is not capable of displacing 425 BHP, along with 406 ft lb of torque, which is developed within 1,850 – 5,500 RPM.

Such great power generation within such a short RPM band, requires precision calibration, along with proper transmission ratios and suspension. Chassis, brake and steering have been specially calibrated, providing greater stability and performance. The rear sub frame of this vehicle has been mounted on its body frame for added precision, while use of aluminum and carbon fiber, keeps total body weight in check.

Mercedes Benz on the other hand, offers the C63 AMG at a £10,000 premium over the BMW. Is it worth the extra payment, we find out! While BMW is offering advanced carbon ceramic disks, along with a dual clutch transmission system, with overhauled interior, Mercedes Benz has done no such major upgrades to its ageing design.

Mercedes however enjoys precedence over most other rivals in class, as their aesthetic features are quite advanced even till date! The C63 AMG weighs 200 kg more than the BMW, although it delivers greater power and torque than the M4. Mercedes Benz C63 AMG is known to displace 500 BHP, while sporting a stiffer chassis. These in turn makes it quite a performer too. Cabin space is high, coupled with a bigger boot.

BMW's M4 is an advanced vehicle in its own right and cannot be overshadowed by most other vehicles. It is advanced in class, although a tad too digital for many users. Mercedes Benz's C64 AMG on the other hand, maybe old, although it is still a pleasure to drive. Both cater to very different clientele. Hence, a direct competition between the two is impossible in the real world, even though on paper, both seem like potential rivals. Take your pick!
