Peugeot Set to Unveil the 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show
|   Friday, February 22, 2013
Peugeot has revealed every minor detail related to the 2008 prior to its launch at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The modifications include a reduction in body weight, additional electronic measures to ensure better services and reduction in the overall CO2 emission figures which make the 2008 environment and pocket friendly. The 2008 is all set to rival the Mini Countryman and the Nissan Juke and is designed for urban use.

The Peugeot 2008 is based as the soft road version of the new 208 while borrowing features from its larger twin, the 3008.
The vehicle has an advanced Grip Control off road technology which makes the 2008 perfect for heading off road by enhancing power production as well as increasing the traction control. Measuring 4.16 x 1.74 meters (length x breadth), the 2008 is longer than its predecessor by 20 cm and wider by 5 cm.

With a total boot capacity of 360 liters (rear seats folded) the interior of the 208 has been carried forward to the 2008. This modification has been done keeping in mind the agile performance of the 208 and a 7 inch touch screen has also been installed on the cabin to enhance overall appeal. The Peugeot Contacted Apps use 3G connectivity to update information such as current weather conditions, forecast and temperature etc. Internet connectivity is also used to access social media sites, Wikipedia etc.

The Peugeot 2008 features a host of external modifications including headlamps borrowed from the 208, panel modification on the side, presence of a new grille for added road presence, etc. The 2008 is expected to feature three diesel and two petrol engine options from start. The diesel variants will feature 1.2 liter and 1.6 liter engines displacing 67 BHP and 113 BHP respectively.

While the 1.2 liter and 1.6 liter petrol engines will be displacing 81 BHP and 118 BHP respectively. The four cylindered petrol engines along with the turbo charged three cylinder diesel engines have been tuned to their optimum ability for power production and Peugeot has claimed prior to its launch that the engines are 12 kg lighter than the conventional engines used on the 208 or the 3008.

The standard safety measures on the 2008 include six air bags for driver and passenger safety, electronic brake force reduction, Anti Brake lock System, traction control, electronic stability control etc. Anti skid regulation and electronic brake assistance will also be incorporated to enhance the driving experience to quite an extent. Peugeot claims that the vehicle will be out I showrooms by June 2013 although a particular launch date has not been announced.

The 2008 is a smaller SUV than the 3008 and has been placed in the price sensitive segment. Peugeot has not announced the pricing yet although it is expected to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. After the hype around the 208, Peugeot will want the same market reactions for the 2008. However, the final market analysis can be performed only after the vehicle has been showcased.
