Peugeot Reveals the Sporty RCZ R at Good Wood
|   Thursday, August 01, 2013
Peugeot is on the verge of showcasing its most powerful production model yet. The Peugeot RCZ R has been unveiled at the Good Wood Festival of Speed this weekend and this vehicle draws power from a 1.6 liter petrol engine displacing 270 BHP along with 243 ft lb of torque. The RCZ R can accelerate from 0 – 60 MPH within 5.9 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 155 MPH.

These theatrics make the RCZ R the fastest yet from Peugeot, at least in terms of production models.
The RCZ R uses advanced weight saving measures to make sure that the power to weight ratio is intact and the decrease of close to 17 kg over the RCZ THP is definitely some news. Peugeot has downsized the engine along with the use of carbon fiber and reinforced plastic and aluminum parts wherever required and these tactics have been applied effortlessly to achieve the figures.

Optimum power to weight ratio of 170 BHP per liter is obtained on the combined scale while the overall CO2 emission has been kept back at 145 g/km. Peugeot reveals that the RCZ R is capable of returning an average fuel efficiency of 44.8 MPG on the combined note and the figure is decent considering the power figures this car is putting up on the leader board.

Style wise, the RCZ R is a modern piece of design while being equally visually appeasing. Standard 19 alloyed inch rims give the car a sportier edge while plenty of RCZ R and Peugeot Sport badges have been installed on both the interior and the exterior to give this car a sporty feel. New 380 mm disc brakes have been installed via a range of aluminum hubs while Peugeot claims that this is an effective braking system, capable of decelerating from 80 – 0 MPH within 61 meters.

Traction control enables this car to be grip friendly while the addition super sticky tires enable this car to be quick yet precise round the corners. The engine feels confident and peppy near the 1900 RPM range and this delivers low end torque quite efficiently. The exhaust system pairs well with the car and the noisy engine lends a sporty and aggressive touch to the car in general.

The cabin is well designed and perfectly built to mimic the interior of a sports car and the small steering wheel along with a smaller manual gear stick enhance their ability to perform. Peugeot hopes that the RCZ R will feel dominant on road and considering the capability of this vehicle, it should be a treat to drive on road as well as on track.

Peugeot is focusing equally on road and track centric vehicles and the RCZ R is the perfect example of what the company could do. The engineers are well aware of the needs of the customers and this is what needs to be done in order to attract the attention of the younger generation. The RCZ R seems to do all with equal elan.
