Peugeot 308 - The New Weapon Of The French In The Compact segment
|   Tuesday, May 14, 2013
Peugeot writes an important new page in its history of over a century: the French manufacturer is making a comeback in the compact segment. In this market segment, Europe has become a battlefield for the major automakers of the moment.

Peugeot has revealed the first information of the new generation 308. As you have guessed, the French have renounced the tradition to change the new generations numbering, and is now keeping the last digit. Thus, its new compact model has the same indicative number with the old model which is currently on the market.

Commenting on the new design, Gilles Vidal, Design Director of Peugeot said that "The new Peugeot 308 has a pure and technological exterior design that speaks of high strength and high quality".

The new 308 has new proportions. Built on the EMP2 platform developed by PSA Peugeot 308 enjoys specific size to the C class: 4,250 mm long and 1,460 mm in height. They will also have a new design philosophy, completely different from the old. In the centre of the look front, there is a completely new grille aligned to the brand philosophy. Near the grid, Peugeot placed the redesigned headlamps, and equipped with LED lights. The brand name appears just above the grille and under the classic logo, trying to give value to the name.

The roof line is not backing down so aggressively. This reminds of the brother group, the Citroen C4. Optical blocks keep an aesthetics link with his younger brother, Peugeot 208.

"When inside the car, one discovers a world of refined style, completely original in the world of hatchback cars, with a cockpit that is intense, innovative and intuitive; it is the Peugeot i-cockpit," says Vincent Devos, Product Manager for the new 308 Peugeot.

The interior has been created completely after the new philosophy, called i - cockpit, trying to arrange everything for a relaxing experience and being intuitive for the driver. As in the case of the Peugeot 208, the new 308 offers a view of the instrument panel over the steering wheel, not by it.
A heads-up display completes this experience. In order to compete with models like Volksagen Golf, the new 308 comes with a 9.7 inch touch screen which replaces many traditional buttons.

Developed on the new modular platform, EMP2, the new 308 is much lighter than the old model by 140 kg. This was possible by installing the smaller components and the 116 patent innovative elements. No wonder that the emissions and consumption decreased considerably compared to the current generation. Peugeot boasts with the lowest emissions in its segment, 85 g / km.

The new generation will be officially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, scheduled this fall. This event will take place on the first day of the allocated media. That day will be September 10. The first copy will arrive in Europe in the fall.

With the new generation of the 308, Peugeot tries to make a jump on several chapters. The French want to grow both in terms of perceived quality and in terms of performance and capabilities. The new 308 will be built at the Peugeot factory in Sochaux, while engines will be delivered from Tremery and Douvrin plants.
