The new version of the turbo petrol engine with three-cylinder placed on the Peugeot 308, the 1.2 liter THP producing 130 hp, managed to get an impressive fuel consumption rating in a test organized by the French manufacturer.

Shortly after winning the title of "Car of the Year in Europe", Peugeot 308 enrolled in its own initiative to fight for the title of the most efficient car in its class.

For this purpose, the French manufacturer organized a test circuit in Almeria, Spain, in which the new version of the 308's engine, named Pure Tech, managed to cover a distance of 1810 km (1,124.
miles) with the 51.4 liters of petrol (13.4 US gallons) stored in the tank.

Doing the calculations we find a fuel consumption of only 2.3 l / 100 km results, which should be recognized as impressive. In the test conducted over a period of 32 hours, and attended by many pilots, the Peugeot 308 was able to set a new record for the longest distance traveled on a single tank of fuel.

According to official statements, the result was obtained with a series model, unchanged in order to reduce fuel consumption.

Furthermore, so that the entire Peugeot procedure will not have the slightest hint of suspicion, there was external supervision from the French association specializing in testing, UTAC (Union Technique de l'Automobile, Motocycle et Cycle).

The performance was obtained with a version number, without uses the 1.2-liter petrol engine with 130 horsepower, assisted by a manual six reports.

In these circumstances, it was just a formality for the 308 to be named the most efficient petrol model in the compact segment. Its fuel consumption in a combined cycle is 3.8 liters / 100 km and emissions stand at 107 g / km.

Peugeot stated that the model is a "benchmark for its sector for most economical vehicle with a petrol engine." The French brand also scores with a diesel unit with 4 cylinders, a 1.6-liter BlueHDi producing 120 hp which has a fuel efficiency of 3.1 liters / 100 km (75.8 US mpg or 91.1 UK mpg) and has 82 g / km CO2 emissions, the segment's lowest.

Peugeot 308 has been declared Car of the Year 2014 in Europe. Also, the French manufacturer has recently announced that it will increase production to meet increased demand for the 308 model.

The turbo 3-cylinder engine, displacing 1.2 liters, uses high-pressure direct injection (at 200 bar) plus a next gen high efficiency turbo running at 240,000 rpm. We will see the engine by the end of March on the 308.

This new engine will complete the 308's already existing petrol engines (3 of them ranging with a power ranging from 82 to 155 hp) and diesels (4 units with outputs of 92 to 150 hp). The PureTech 1.2-liter 3-cylinder unit will likewise be available on the Peugeot 208 as well as the 2008 in a 110 hp guise. Expect it in the following weeks.
