Peugeot 205 completes 30 years of existence

In the year 1991 the introduction of the 106 version of the Peugeot was meant to serve the purpose of fielding another car in the small and affordable range. Although a lot of thinking was put behind the manufacturing of such an automobile, it failed to grab the eyeballs and create the same appeal.

After a time period of two years following the demise of the 205 model, in 1998 Peugeot launched the 206 version as the appropriate successor. The 206 model of the automobile was given all the style and zing and consequently gained some worthy popularity.

Despite that the 206 version had failed to capture hearts on a continued basis and enlarged scale and failed to instigate a sense of desire in the minds of those who were already preoccupied with the car they had experienced driving earlier- the Peugeot 205.

The launch of the 205 version of the Peugeot was scheduled in 1983 where the automobile company brought out an array of cars with petrol engines ranging in the small size category. Few of the models also sported diesel engines that were naturally aspirated for the specific models.

This car had grabbed attention and a whole lot of it as well. It had a halo of expectations around it rising from the company as well as the fans. In the year 1984, this car was a strong contender to clinch the European Car of the Year title along with some top notch models from other automobile giants but it was beaten hands down in the race by Fiat Uno.

Despite that the Peugeot 205 went on to win several plaudits, all credit to the comparatively low running costs that it had on board not to forget the styling which is fairly attractive and last but not the least, the dynamics of the car which seem to suit the grade of excellence.

The GTi version of the Peugeot was launched in the year 1984 during the month of April was in all probability the most sacrosanct out of the 205 models. The engine initially flaunted a 105bhp with a 1.6 litre capacity which got fixed rather upgraded to boast an increase of 10 rising up to an 115bhp in the year 1986. The price listed for the car neared something around £6295.

This was later joined by the likes of a 1.9 litre flagship engine with a 130bhp later that year. The European versions of the 205 version of the Rallye made a 102bhp all credit to the twin Weber carburettors that were adopted by the company although the UK car had just one on board.

With the new D Turbo version of 205, Peugeot has arguably created the hot hatch in the diesel category that can still give cars like VW Golf GTD and Mini Cooper SD a run for their money in the sphere of popularity. The 205 model was also accomplished in the field of motorsport as it hit the roads.
