Perks of Getting the Latest Subaru WRX
|   Tuesday, March 25, 2014
We have just driven Subaru's latest variant of the WRX - or Impreza as we know it – and this vehicle manages to get everything right. It feels as if Subaru had been purposely getting wrong with their Impreza this long and they finally decide to stop playing games with the customers and fans. Torsion rigidity has increased by over 41 percent, while spring rates have increased by 39 and 62 percent respectively.

All these lead to sharper handling, which thins the line separating a Sports Coupe from a standard sedan.
We do not mind at all, as it brings a thriftiness required in a sedan as well. Exterior styling is quite frustrating, as this is not what you would expect a Subaru to look like. Chassis stability could also improve substantially, although all these factors can be overlooked, once you get behind its wheel.

Powered by a 2.0 liter turbo charged FA20 engine (lifted right off their Forester 2.0i XT), this vehicle uses specifically designed valve springs and camshafts for added performance. Direct compression ratio equaling 10:6:1 is felt when you drive, while their latest Dual Action Active Valve Control System is completely utilized. Total torque displacements of 258 ft lb have been recorded within 2,000 – 5,000 RPM, along with boost pressures equaling 15.9 psi – 17.1 psi.

An all new automated CVT transmission system has been added for enhanced performance, complete with manual shifter paddles. This 6 speed transmission works wonders with this vehicle, while a completely disengaged Stability Control System is important for the WRX. Fans are quite happy with the WRX, as a sense of aggressive performance is received right from the start.

Subaru has actually kept a key start ignition on this vehicle, which is near obsolete thanks to push start. The real pleasure of driving is available on the WRX, as it has no adjustable drive modes, yet feels pretty balanced and precise. Get this vehicle, for reliving the good old days. Subaru's latest 2.0 liter engine block provides high performance, with minimalistic turbo lag, flawed only by a light throttle control, post 6,000 RPM.

This power train has a whole lot of character, while body stiffness is felt immediately. Accurate and precise steering is much appreciated, although we would never have expected poor performance from Subaru at least. It is clear, that the engineers have learnt something from their BRZ and have applied this knowledge quite successfully on the WRX. We have punished the turbo charged Boxed engine powering this vehicle, on more occasions than one and each time it managed to stand out.
This vehicle loses all sense of character and normalcy, with ESP turned off. It shows its true character and color – namely high performance and soft road capability.

However, if you are based in the UK, you can't get your hands on the standard WRX, even if you are willing to pay double. Subaru is offering its range topping WRX STI or nothing. Subaru should definitely try and do something about this!
