Performance and Mileage Challenge - Alpina B6 Biturbo
|   Saturday, June 01, 2013
The next big revelation from Alpina is expected to be a huge twin turbo six cylindered D3, which would have the power to take on a BMW M3 head on. However, the challenge with this machine is that Alpina claims that the car will simultaneously be able to return close to 50 MPG and this is what's stirring up the market.

Alpina has however not revealed a suitable time for this vehicle to be launched and it could take up to a year for the final project to be underway.
Enthusiasts are quite happy with the revelations and are waiting eagerly for this vehicle to hit the roads. The other widely awaited vehicle from Alpina is the B6 Bi turbo Coupe. The B6 is powered by a 4.4 liter petro, powered V8 displacing 532 BHP @ 5200 – 6250 RPM along with 538 ft lb of torque @ 2800 RPM.

An eight speed ZF transmission system has been mated to the engine and this is lifted directly off the 6 Series vehicles. The transmission system has been tweaked heavily to limit the shifting ratio when the vehicle is in its economy mode and this helps the vehicle save fuel. A momentary cut in the flow of fuel is made and this saves fuel time and again.

The chassis also bears certain resemblances to a standard BMW 6 Series although the mechanical tweaks have been made according to the reliability of the Alpina. As a result this vehicle features a softer suspension setting which makes it easier to drive on road and control in bends. The three modes offered on the B6 are Normal, Sports and Sports Plus.

Needless to say performance is enhanced in the Sports mode while the Sports Plus is the premium mode for high speeds. If it comes to the brand value, a BMW is much higher priced as compared to an Alpina, but this vehicle holds a ground of its own and as a result it is more practical as compared to a BMW as it has the power, reliability, comfort and performance of a BMW in a much lower price segment.

The exhaust note of the Alpina B6 is quite deep and rough and this adds enhanced appeal to the vehicle. The rear diffuser has been redesigned and this gives the B6 a renewed appeal. The B6 is a high speed cruiser and is great to drive over large stretches. Priced at £92,850, it is on the high side of the price chart, but on the other hand a BMW is priced much higher even though most of their components are identical.

The steering column of this vehicle is the most exciting part of this car and is highly appreciated too. Alpina has spent a long time modifying this vehicle and all the effort seems to have paid off. The B6 weighs a total of 1870 kg which makes it one of the heaviest vehicles in its class and this is the only drawback faced by this vehicle.
