Opel Monza gets its Frankfurt debut
|   Wednesday, September 11, 2013
Opel has decided to take the Frankfurt motor show by storm and showcase not two, not three, not four, but seven new models. The GM division is planning to steal the hearts of all petrolheads with the revised Opel Insignia lineup and especially with yesterday's reveal: the Opel Monza Concept, that is thought to be the show stopper.

The revival of the boxy 1980s model is truly amazing and has attracted a large mass of the Frankfurt motor show visitors.
It may be its intergalactic look or its connectivity with the infotainment system that has everybody talking. One thing is sure: it is really a concept to look out for.

The Monza Concept is thought to embody the beliefs of the company regarding the future and wants to set a blueprint for design targets. Its styling is a unique blend between a coupe and a shooting brake, with subtle design changes that give a sense of taking flight when the doors are opened. Maybe the most defining elements for the concepts are the LED headlights and the sharp lines for the gullwing doors. The cabin has a configuration of 2+2 seats.

What really makes the Monza stand out are the high-tech features. The most spectacular achievement is the LED projection technology with 3D graphics, that enables the driver to turn the dashboard into a large screen. This can be used for practical or infotainment purposes. Another important feature focuses on three smartphone connectivity modes: ME, US and ALL. ME is a mode that is created with the driver in mind and offers a lot of useful driving information. US is created for passengers and allows them to control the infotainment system. Last, but not least, ALL is a mode that reaches to the outside, opening a number of features via web and sharing the car's route for a potential car pooling. These technologies could also enable dialogues with other cars or stationary objects in order to prevent accidents and ease traffic jams.

Opel Monza is an electric vehicle, but it also has a 1.0 liter three-cylinder natural gas engine. Moreover, with its modular chassis design, the series model could be able to accommodate gasoline, diesel or electric.

It's still unsure whether the Concept will make it to production or not, but it is certain that it will be a great inspiration mark for the future Vauxhall and Opel models regarding design, styling and capabilities. If the car does come to life, it will probably be front-wheel drive and will use the Vauxhall Cascada platform.
