Opel Insignia Grand Sport - Official Photos and Technical Details
|   Monday, December 19, 2016
After the success of the Insignia's first generation, which got Car of the Year 2009 and recorded sales of 900,000 units already, the new Insignia Grand Sport is based on a completely new architecture. The wheelbase has been increased by 92 mm, ensuring greater interior space, particularly for rear passengers.

In addition, it has allowed the designers to give the Insignia Grand Sport impressive proportions and an appearance worthy of a spearhead model: with a longer and lower appearance the car has a slim silhouette, supple like a coupe and the bold posture from the upper vehicle classes.
Add to this the best aerodynamic characteristics in its class and a drag coefficient of just 0.26.

Inside, the new Insignia Grand Sport will pamper the driver with a stylish dashboard with a seating position 3 cm lower than before for a more direct and even more exciting driving experience.

As in the case of the Opel Astra, efficiency was an essential objective pursued in the development phase for the new Insignia. Optimized design and the use of lightweight materials allowed reducing its weight up to 175 kg, increasing accuracy and agility while driving. The new high-tech amenities, such as all wheels drive system with torque vectorization system, the most sophisticated system in this segment, or new automatic transmission with eight gears enable drivers to fully exploit the car's qualities.

Increased wheelbase and a completely new design offers 32 mm more space at hip level, with an extra 25 mm of space for the shoulder and knees areas, and 8 mm more space for the head. The trunk volume is impressive: between 490 l and 1,450 l.

The parking assist system uses radar sensors from the rear bumper to detect objects at a distance up to 20 m and 90 degrees to the back left or right, a very nice feature to have in a parking place with limited visibility.

In addition, the Insignia Grand Sport is equipped with a number of leading technologies that enable safer driving, more relaxed and comfortable than ever. Building on the acclaimed adaptive lighting system with LED matrix on the Astra model, the Opel engineers have already developed the second generation IntelliLux LED for Insignia: it is faster, precise and powerful and the lighting distance for the high beam now reaches 400 m.

The assistant to maintain lanes with automatic maneuver correction, a new display on the windscreen and 360 degree video camera, along with comfort and convenience features, such as unique premium AGR certified seats, heated front and rear seats, and heated windshield increase the comfort provided by the new Insignia.

The vehicle occupants enjoy infotainment and connectivity on board thanks to the cutting-edge IntelliLink systems, and personal assistant service and connectivity, OnStar Opel, which, with the launch of the new Insignia, will include a new Personal Assistant. But the new Insignia Grand Sport does not only care about passenger safety: it is the first Opel with an active aluminum hood, which in an impact with a pedestrian rises in milliseconds to increase the distance to the hard components of the engine, thus significantly increasing the level of protection.
The new Opel flagship will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.
