Opel GT Concept On How Sports Cars Will Look Like In The Future
|   Tuesday, February 02, 2016
The last appearance in the contemporary GT models is signed by Opel. It's a concept that will be presented in a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show and represents no more, no less than the future of sports car, at least in the German brand's vision.

Presentation of official photos came after Opel began a teaser campaign which wanted to keep us glued to the monitors until March 1, when the Germans prototype will be unveiled at the brand's stand in Geneva.
Disclosing the photo gallery was achieved more quickly than anticipated so that we can closely examine the forms and the idea behind the new Opel GT Concept.

Obviously the name is not an absolute novelty in Opel range because the GT model was made and will still be part of the collection of attractive sports cars with which the Germans have papered its history. The new concept, however, is 100 percent different from what has so far been provided by the brand from Russelsheim.

First, the Opel GT is closer to the Mazda MX-5 and BMW Z4 with fluid and aggressive forms. The lines of the concept are inspired in part by another historic brand prototype, Experimental GT, which has been in fact the first ever product concept of a European brand.

Being inspired by the original Opel GT product during the years 1968 - 1973 and the first Opel concept, called Experimental GT unveiled at the Motor Show in Frankfurt 1965 and from which the exhaust pipes placed in the middle of the car were taken, the concept approaches the size and dimensions of the first GT!
The red stripe which highlights the roofline is the designer's signature, the color being present on the front wheels as a tribute to Opel Motoclub 500, an innovative motorcycle that Opel brought to the market almost 90 years ago (more exactly in 1928), and which was considered an engineering marvel at that time.

A for technical solutions which deserve to be highlighted we have two raised cameras mounted in the wheel arches which transmit images to two monitors placed laterally in the passenger compartment, and proving that the classical side mirrors days are numbered. Also, the matrix LED headlights which have appeared for the first time on the new generation Astra find a perfect use on the Opel GT Concept, ensuring a bright signature that underlines the dynamic character of the car.

The Opel GT Concept is equipped with a turbocharged engine with three cylinders and a displacement of 1.0 liter, derived from the motor used on the ADAM, Corsa and Astra models. The petrol unit, which is centrally located, develops a power of 145 hp and generates a maximum torque of 205 Nm. The torque is transmitted to the rear axle via a sequential six-speed configuration including a mechanical differential.
Weighing less than 1,000 kg and a very good mass balance the Opel GT Concept promises outstanding performance: it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than eight seconds and reaches a top speed of 215 km / h.
