On The Border Of Off-Road And Rally: Skoda Yeti Xtreme
|   Thursday, June 12, 2014
Skoda is not a brand very dedicated to sports models, with the exception of the Octavia RS and Fabia rally appearances. These examples were the only elements that have disturbed the Czech brand's rhythm of being a brand dedicated to the family man.

That is also why the brand officials were obliged to be present at the annual meeting of Volkswagen enthusiasts at Worthersee, in Austria, at the end of May (May 28 to 31), with a special prototype for the fans dedicated to the twisty roads models.
The model on which this concept is built is an original one: the Yeti compact SUV that Skoda launched in 2009.

The concept, officially named Skoda Yeti Xtreme, has a seriously modified exterior and interior to provide both a sporty and off-road appearance. This concept has created a mixture of rally-inspired chassis updates and equipment, with a glow of fire color scheme to demonstrate the "versatile potential of its popular compact SUV."

According to the release of those from Skoda, the Yeti Xtreme really explores the potential of the Yeti model as a rally car, the brand from Mlada Boleslav giving us a picture of a road car that could actually reach, with the necessary modifications, some special competition stages with sporty profiles.

The new concept really stands out as we can see from the official photos. The bold hues on the bodywork are really nice, as well as a number of other additional elements, such as new front and rear spoilers, thick thresholds, and highlighted wings that hide 17-inch wheels shod with off-road tires. Skoda said the height of the chassis can be adjusted. Next, we have a revised bumper at the rear together with new dual exhausts. The off-road equipment is found in the boot, among which we can find special traction mats and recovery tracks.

Under the hood, the Skoda Yeti Xtreme has installed an engine that's found in the portfolio of the VW Group but on the other models: the 1.8-liters turbo petrol rated at 152 hp and 250 Nm of torque, and is paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to technical data provided by Skoda, the petrol unit enables the Czech model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 192 km / h. In order to face the dynamic requirements of the car, the Yeti Xtreme borrowed the brakes from the Octavia RS model.

The interior is one of the most interesting parts of the Skoda concept. In addition to four individual shell-type Recaro seats, fastened four-point belts, a Super Sport steering wheel, and new elements such as fire extinguisher and a knife for cutting belts (elements inspired by rally cars). The Xtreme Yeti's cabin is constructed from materials worthy of a track car with carbon fiber on the faces of the doors and the aluminum floor being the main attractions from this point of view.

Werner Eichhorn, Skoda Board Member for Sales and Marketing said that "Skoda Yeti Xtreme – as a dynamic and powerful compact SUV concept – demonstrates the brand's strong expertise in four-wheel drive technology, as well as our know-how when it comes to rally sports."
Now remember that Skoda has confirmed the model is just a design study. For now.
