Old Jaguar XJS up for grab at cheap prices
|   Saturday, August 09, 2014
Getting hold of an old car that is still in drivable condition is very difficult. There are about a thousand advertisements every day in newspapers and televisions marketing old cars like something from Jaguar XJ series at prices as low as $500, but once you actually make the mistake of buying one such car, you will never be able to drive it.

There would be no such fuss over buying a used Jaguar if they did not go overboard with their pricing. The way they have put up a price tag on their latest Jaguar F type shows that they do not want any commoner to get a hand on their cars.
It is meant only for the elitists.

Once in a while you might find a nice looking XJ SC at cheap prices. One look will not reveal much about it but then it all falls apart once you try to ride it. The doors get jammed, engine starts making weird noises, the suspension is all gone and even transmission is shitty. So it all seems to fluctuate quickly from a great investment to a complete loss. Then again, you find a good one in this lot, and then you get happy.

A convertible Jaguar XJS from way back in time, probably 80s, is a rare sight. To find such a car that is still road safe and passes all pollution tests is next to impossible. Getting one that ticks all the right boxes, at price of 10,000 GBP is something that you will never believe.

Now here comes the most interesting part. There is a well tuned V12 engine fitted under the hood, in almost mint condition, intact with all original wiring and fittings, and with a capacity of 5.3 liter. Although it looks a bit untidy when you open bonnet, it still is a V12 after all.

After such extensive use also, former owner of this car is pretty optimistic about its mileage. A good 20 miles per gallon is promised by him, with a statutory warning of being careful, but then there is no money back guarantee that comes with it. Still, even if it falls a bit short of promises, it would still be good.

There are, however, some glitches to this beauty. The engine misfires once in a while, so you cannot exactly balance a penny on it (yes it is a reference to the original marketing of V12 done by BMW), but then it is not that big a deal.

This engine is capable of producing 291 bhp. Sounds a bit low, but when it starts moving, it almost feels like gliding on thin air, it is that snoot. Coupled with a top speed of 150 miles per hour, there is no reason to frown.

It comes with a wood rimmed steering wheel and a few other such bespoke classy personalizations. It is better than any other used car you have ever seen and totally worth buying, even with all the minor glitches.
