Oil Group Shell Predicts Disappearance Of Conventional Cars By 2070
|   Saturday, January 25, 2014
Conventional cars powered by gasoline, diesel, and any other oil derivatives will disappear by 2070. The prediction is part of a detailed report on the future of conventional fuels drawn up by the oil group Shell.
The Shell study combines predictive algorithms and complex economic scenarios to provide an overview of the plausible evolution as propulsion technologies and the energy sources used in the next 50 years.

"By 2070, passenger vehicle segment could become completely independent of oil and other fossil fuels.
Towards the end of the century, the development of an complex infrastructure for hydrogen fueling, will minimize the demand for petroleum products, including conservative branches such as transport of goods," says the Shell report, which spans more than 46 pages.

Some car manufacturers have already taken the first steps toward popularizing the propulsion systems based on hydrogen. Honda, BMW and Mercedes have successfully tested in recent years prototypes fueled by hydrogen and Toyota introduced last fall a concept ready to enter into series production by 2015.

Theoretically, the hydrogen cars will provide the same benefits of electric vehicle from nowadays, but without any kind of concessions in terms of autonomy or performance.

Shell argues that, although the existence of the car as we know it today is counted, the demand for oil has not reached, in fact, its maximum peak. This maximum demand is to be recorded sometime in 2035. After this point, the decline of the conventional fuels will accelerate constantly.

Shell CEO, Peter Voser also said "By 2030 we expect demand for critical resources like water, energy and food to have risen by 40%-50%. To meet those needs without significant environmental detriment, business as usual will not be an option – we require business unusual."
