Official Images of BMW's Z4 Revealed Along With a List of Basic Specifications

Official images of BMW's latest updated Z4, which is rumored to displace 425 BHP, has been revealed online, ahead of its much awaited public display at the New York Motor Show, to be held during April end. Expected to be available in the United Kingdom by September 2014, BMW is offering a range of six cylindered turbo charged engines on their new line of vehicles.

This powertrain is completely new and is also featured on the latest M3 and M4 Coupes that were showcased in Detroit Earlier in January this year.
While the M4 features a base price tag of £60,730 - the last generation M3 cabriolet was priced from £59,040 when it went out of production – this vehicle will be pitched in a similar price segment as the M3 Cabriolet.

The M4 is based on BMW's latest range of 4 Series vehicles while certain conventional exterior style modifications have been performed on it. These include an all new kidney grille treatment up front, large engine cooling ducts up front, an integrated air intake system on the wide front fenders and larger front wheel houses. These modifications have been aimed at improving air flow throughout the body, improving aerodynamics and performance in general.

Standard 19 inch rims are being offered by BMW for its European customers, although optional larger wheels could be available shortly too. Measuring 4,670 mm x 1,870 mm x 1,386 mm (length x breadth x height) this vehicle is larger than its predecessor on all fronts. Numerous modifications have been done to its chassis as well, while ride height has been lowered for greater ground grip and balance.

This convertible opens the roof structure in three simple steps, which is operational even when the vehicle is moving at a top speed of 11 MPH. This process takes about 20 seconds to wind up, on both ends. While 370 liters of boot space is available on this vehicle with the roof up, this space shrinks to 220 liters with the roof down. These figures are still a respectable 10 – 20 liters greater than the outgoing M3 Cabriolet.

Power arrives from a BMW M tuned in line six cylindered 3.0 liter turbocharged engine, which has been confirmed for the M3 and M4 Coupe too. This direct fuel injected engine is capable of displacing 425 BHP along with 406 ft lb of torque and is manufactured at BMW's facility in Munich. The M3 Cabriolet used a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter engine whose power supply was a lot lower than our modernized turbo charged engines.

Hence, greater power displacement has been coupled with a linear power delivery technology, which makes the M4 a complete drive package. This vehicle will effectively rival Audi's RS5 Cabriolet, which is a 4.2 liter V8 engine displacing 444 BHP with 318 ft lb of torque. Mated to this new engine option, is a six speed manual transmission system that works like a charm with this machine. Overall weight has also been reduced by 60 kg, which provides a better power to weigh ratio.
