Nissan ZEOD RC promising results on tracks
|   Sunday, June 15, 2014
This week and weekend has been dedicated to motor racing events. With big events like 24 hour Le Mans, Japan, Detroit in USA and Silverstone in United Kingdom all lined up, it has been more than eventful and pretty good for some brands, like Nissan, testing out new technologies on race car prototypes.

Nissan has performed wonderfully well in the race in Japan. It has managed to capture all three positions on podium in a 1st, 2nd and 3rd position finish by Nissan GT500 GT R, a new model.
Nissan ZEOD RC has also performed well. Nissan has got good results in LM P2 class, being fastest in this class.

Results for Nissan have been great in other racing events as well. TUDOR United Sports car Championship had been held in Detroit, USA. Nissan has obtained good results there. British GT Championship was hosted at Silverstone, UK. Here also Nissan performed well, and there was an Olympic legend, Sir Chris Hoy, behind the wheels here.

Performance of a car is not only dependent on power output and aerodynamic design of car, but it is also heavily dependent on who is driving it. In Le Mans 24 hours P2 class, there were two very dependable drivers behind wheel of ZEOD RC. Wolfgang Reip was present with Tommy Erdos, two time champion of same event in past.

It was not a perfect run for ZEOD RC. It had some testing time with two technical difficulties during race. There was a case of broken fuel pump on one of the occasions while a broken exhaust was causing concerns in second occasion. Both of these difficulties were well dealt with and a swift action allowed ZEOD RC to be fastest in P2 class.

This was, however, a very important step in developing technology of race car prototype. It plans to complete a full lap of the Le Mans 24 hour running on pure electric power. If they can pull this off then there is a big chance that their new GT-R concept will be based on a hybrid technology that will be in alignment with technology presently in use on ZEOD RC.

Darren Cox, Global Head of Brand, Marketing and Sales for NISMO have spoken on the matter. He pointed out that it has been huge to try and complete a full lap of 8.5 mile solely on Electric power output. He has also mentioned that they have managed to a big part of the race on EV Power. They have had much to learn from this experience. He has added that he has realized why this idea of running on electric power for Le Mans has been neglected so far.

ZEOD RC will be kept under testing. It will be tested in British Circuits and that also with the original car and not the race car prototype used in Le Mans. This car is the result of tireless efforts from all workers at the plant, putting in overtime, as pointed out by Darren Cox himself.
