Nissan Will Launch India\'s Own Duster Version, Called Terrano
|   Sunday, June 09, 2013
Nissan will start selling on the Indian market its own version of the Dacia Duster, which will have a modified front end, a subtly changed rear, while keeping the inside unchanged.

The Dacia Duster will also be sold under the Nissan logo, informs Autocar. The model will be offered in this formula only in the Indian market, where the car will be sold as the Terrano. The Indian version of the publication Autocar, announced that the Nissan version will be more expensive than the one bearing the logo of Renault, and the explanation comes from a source within the Renault-Nissan Alliance who explained for the publication the reason why there this difference.

According to an internal policy, the Nissan models based on Renault models will cost more than its donor and vice versa. Take the example of the Sunny; it's cheaper than its badge-engineered compatriot, the Scala. So, in this case, since Nissan will be the one borrowing the Duster, the Terrano will be priced higher. Therefore, the people in charge of the Nissan Terrano model will sell it at a higher price than the Renault Duster is marketed in India. British newspaper claims that the difference between the two versions of the Duster is located between 50,000 and 75,000 rupees, which is equivalent to 600-900 euros.

The Nissan version of Duster will have a modified front end, while the interior will remain almost unchanged. The back end of the Nissan Duster will receive a set of taillights that differentiate it from the SUV version made at Renault's Mioveni factory. The Renault division in Brazil also sells modified versions of Dacia models, some of them with updated or completely changed interiors. In the Indian market, the concern is a low-cost approach in order to meet the reduced budgets customers in this country have to work with.

Unlike the models called Scala and Pulse, which are virtually the Sunny and the Micra with a minor plastic add-ons, the Terrano will be shipped with significantly visible exterior changes. The Nissan SUV will witness those changes to the sheet metal in order to bring the car in line with other Nissan SUVs. Going by precedent and deduction, it might look very similar to what we can see on the X-trail. The car will also have a new bumper, headlamps, tailgate as well as tail-lights. The interiors on the other hand will be the same; this is done to save costs. The only real difference will be the Nissan logo placed on the steering wheel.
The new Terrano will see daylight on the Indian market by the end of this year.

The original Nissan Terrano was an SUV produced between 1986 and 2005. Initially, the model belonged to the compact segment in terms of size, but since the 2005 generation grew in size, the model eventually became the current Pathfinder. In the compact SUV segment, the Nissan Terrano was replaced in the European market with the Qashqai and X-Trail models, while the Pathfinder came into the offer as its big brother.
