Nissan Sport Sedan Highlights The Brand's Future Sedan Design
|   Saturday, January 18, 2014
Nissan Sport Sedan, the concept of a sedan with sporty design, was presented at the Auto Show in Detroit. The Nissan Sport Sedan Concept has a mission to foreshadow the new design language of the Japanese house. The concept shown in Detroit anticipates at the same time a future high class sedan, the successor of the current Maxima.

The exhibit shows a glimpse of how the future Japanese sedan range will look like. They will likely be equipped with a front part inspired by that of the Sport Sedan Concept.
We are talking about the front grille which integrates the Nissan logo in a "V" and even sharp optical blocks. The lines of the front bumper could be present on the future creations of Nissan, but in more temperate forms.

For example, the "V" around the Nissan logo is already present in the current portfolio of the brand and is displayed on the Juke. On the new Qashqai and the new X-Trail, this feature is even more powerful. We also notice the optical blocks inspired by the form of a boomerang, which use a set of four LEDs positioned towards the outside of the headlight.

The Sport Sedan Concept displays a bold reinterpretation of the boomerang headlights, and a V-shaped grille, well-anchored elements in the Nissan DNA. The idea of the camouflaged glass pillars which emphasize the sensation of floating roof will be kept in the case of the series model.

The back of the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept stands out thanks to the angular taillights and C-pillar separated by a glass element. The ceiling gives the impression it plunges into the rear window and chrome trimmed side windows create the illusion of a Coupé. The trunk lid is rounded at the top to make room for the Nissan logo, while the taillights are elongated toward the rear wheels, and have a relief design. The rear bumper incorporates the air diffuser from carbon fiber and two chromed ornaments exhaust. The concept has a length of 4,870 mm, a width of 1,912 mm and a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. The height of the Nissan Sport Sedan is 1,378 millimeters.

The interior is as futuristic as the exterior. The only elements that are contemporary with the current range are the pedals, the steering wheel and the turn signal lever. Also, the interior is upholstered entirely in leather and gives clues about the future of ergonomics and entertainment solutions developed by Nissan.

The motorization is provided by a V6 engine, displacing 3.5 liters, which provides over 300 horses, and a Xtronic CVT transmission which was configured to provide a sporting behavior. Despite the fact that this exhibit has dimensions comparable to Maxima, a Nissan sedan sold in the U.S. market, the manufacturer representatives did not mention the respective name, and have not talked about a possible production version of this concept.

The current generation of the Nissan Maxima is produced in Tennessee, United States, and was launched in 2008. The future model could reach Europe and will share the technical platform, and the most motorization, with the new Murano, expected on the market in 2015.
