Nissan Set to Showcase the Next Generation Micra
|   Sunday, June 09, 2013
The Nissan Micra has received a major interior overhaul which is set to instill new life into the machine. This measure has been taken to enhance the life expectancy of the Micra which has recorded poor sales so far. Nissan has described this change as phenomenal and this makeover will be a comprehensive change. The upholstery has been overhauled completely while new technology has been installed in the vehicle.

The Micra features many advanced technological features and Nissan plans on lifting up this hatchback to the top of the hot hatch segment, closer to the Ford Fiesta.
The center console of the Micra features a 5.8 inch touch screen along with Nissan Connect. The Micra also features Google connectivity which makes it easy to search on the go. The quality of the parts as well as the upholstery as a whole has been improved and the use of textured plastic is highly visible.

Some of the minor exterior changes include fog light and headlamp surround, LED lamps, bonnet, grille and bumper along with a new tailgate. Panoramic glass roof, alloy wheels and park assist system have also been added to the vehicle. Nissan is also offering additional paint schemes on the vehicle. The Micra is available is three trim levels – Tekna, Acenta and the low level Visia.

The Visia features electric front windows, remote central locking, CD player, power steering, ESP, ABS, airbags along with USB connectivity. The mid range Acenta features front fog lamps, 15 inch rims, automatic lights and wipers, Bluetooth connectivity and other cosmetic upgrades along with the features present in the Visia. The Tekna is the highest model in the lineup and it consists – apart from the features in the Acenta – air vents, theme floor mats, gear stick surround, door mirrors, wheel centre cap.

Nissan is allowing personalization options on the Acenta such as paint schemes engine options and other interior changes. The Micra is powered by a 1.2 liter turbo charged petrol DIGS engine and a three cylindered 1.2 liter petrol engine. Both engines are mated to a five speed manual transmission system. CVT gear boxes are optional although Nissan is planning on a September 2013 release although the plan has not been finalized as of yet.

Minor price differences are expected and the pre face lifted model will be available for the time being. This vehicle is expected to draw in huge customer support as Nissan has altered a few of the discrepancies that people did not like about the Micra. Additional mechanical and exterior changes should be the key to success. Initial reactions of the public however appear to be mixed and while people seem to be enjoying the way this car feels, they are not really sure about the design in general. The front end does resemble a smaller version of the Toyota Yaris and as we know, the design failed to kick off. This as a result should pose a problem to the Micra if not changed soon.
