Nissan Reveals its Zero Emissions on Demand Vehicle for Le Mans 2014
|   Friday, October 18, 2013
Nissan has unveiled its latest ZEOD racer at its Headquarters in Japan. ZEOD or "Zero Emissions on Demand" is the latest addition to this season's 24 Hours of Le Mans and will take on sturdy opposition from conventionally powered vehicles next year. This vehicle will sport the ‘Garage 56' tag as it is a new entrant and should also be the first vehicle to race at this event on nothing but electric energy.

Nissan claims that this vehicle is capable of reaching top speeds equaling 185 MPH while Nissan claims that it should also break all records for speed in its LMGTE class.
Lucas Ordonez joins hand with GT1 and Super FT champion Michael Krumm in developing this vehicle and both drivers are confirmed to race this vehicle next year on track. Excitement is pumping around the circuit and people want to know more about this mystery vehicle.

Followed by a primitive unveiling at Le Mans earlier this year, exterior styling will change on this vehicle while new cooling intakes should be added along with an aerodynamic upgrade. Nissan claims that their ZEOD will soon be introduced to LMP1 technology while this vehicle bears similarities to Nissan's latest Leaf. Regenerative braking as well as conventional charging points makes this vehicle conventional for use while enhanced battery life makes it perfect for use on long tenures.

This vehicle will need refueling every 12 laps as per Garage 56 rules and this should not be problematic, even though no formal test runs have been conducted so far. Nissan however has installed a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine in this vehicle, capable of displacing 300 BHP and drivers will be able to choose within petrol only, hybrid and electric only modes.

This powertrain is mated to a five speed manual paddle transmission system while Nissan's interest in terms of engineering prowess gets this vehicle to gallop faster than anticipated. Company officials expect a top speed of 1985 MPH while on road tests should reveal their true nature and capacity. We are waiting for a formal test run, post which we will bring you minor details regarding performance and official figures.

Nissan claims that ZEOD is the track version of its latest Leaf and although this is a little over the top for first time viewers, it should not pose much difficulties for veterans as much of its technology is shared with Mother Concern Nismo. Nissan will be showcasing its ZEOD at various events throughout this year and its official unveil during FIA Endurance Championship at Fiji is highly awaited.

Firmness tests are currently on while wind tunnel tests have been performed successfully. We will be in a better position to comment on this vehicle once we are brought up to speed by officials, capable of commenting on this scenario. For now, stay tuned as well will get back to you with latest news, reports and drive tests, as and when Nissan carries them out. Keep your eyes open and you might catch a glimpse of this vehicle, testing on track.
