Nissan Renault Working on a Revolutionary Common Module Family Platform
|   Saturday, July 13, 2013
Nissan and Renault plans to develop a common module which will feature future vehicles from both companies. This is a cost saving measure and will also save up on the time and resources required to develop new platforms for similar vehicles. 14 new models from both companies are expected to be based on this platform and the vehicles are expected to be available by 2020.

11 of these new vehicles will be from the house of Renault and the list includes the replacement vehicles of the Laguna, Scenic and the Espace.
Nissan on the other hand will be launching the replacement vehicles for the X-Trail and the Qashqai while the Rogue will be made available in the United States. Unlike the common MQB platform designed by the Volkswagen Group, this common platform will be compatible with the different vehicles which are expected to be designed on it.

The front and the rear sections of the vehicle along with the cabin space and the under body of the vehicles will be different from one another and this possible solely due to the new common platform. However, these vehicles based on the new COMMON MODULE FAMILY platform can be designed around different vehicle and platforms which help Nissan Renault in distinguishing between each and every vehicles rolling out of their garage.

The first vehicle to be based on the COMMON MODULE FAMILY platform, although yet to be named, will be available in showrooms by the end of the current year. Sharing of different technologies and parts will come in handy to both companies and is expected to save up on a lot of resources for the future. Cost of production can finally be reduced by close to 40 percent.

Experts believe that the new COMMON MODULE FAMILY platform will be used to design close to a million vehicles per year within 2020 and the list includes everything from vans to sedans, hatch backs and SUVs. This surely saves a lot on designing separate platforms for individual vehicles. Vehicles designed on the COMMON MODULE FAMILY technology will be sold across every global market within the next few years and this Nissan Renault partnership will be used to design the next generation Micra and the Clio as well.

This news comes in at a time when the automotive world is looking for a major breakthrough in terms of resource saving measures to develop technologies which will prove beneficial in future. Industrial and strategically beneficial tie ups and partnerships are very common nowadays. The Nissan Renault partnership did not come as a surprise as a result.

Platform sharing was in practice between these companies although the decision to develop a platform which can be further modified was completely new. This idea has already been well accepted in the automotive world although the products need to be analyzed before further comments are possible. The Common Module Family however is a potent addition to the Nissan Renault partnership and the hype regarding this platform is building up slowly yet steadily.
