Nissan Impresses with the 2013 Leaf
|   Monday, July 08, 2013
Nissan has just unveiled the second generation battery powered Leaf. This may look like the previous generation model but the Leaf has a range of properties which distinguish this vehicle from its predecessors. The Nissan leaf is a certified pure vehicle from the Japanese car makers and Nissan says that their new vehicle is more performance friendly than its predecessor.

Exterior tweaks have also been made to the vehicle while the front and rear bumpers have been visually tweaked as well.
The drive train has been modified while the new range of wheels look good on the car. Nissan claims that the Leaf is a 94 percent fuel efficient vehicle and the cabin packs in sufficient head and leg room. The battery weighs close to 250 kg even though the weighty has been reduced by 32 kg.

Nissan claims that the all new heat pump technology uses 70 percent less fuel than its predecessor and the Leaf can travel close to 105 – 113 Miles on a single recharge depending upon the temperature and humidity level of the atmosphere. Nissan says that the Lead functions within the optimum temperature range of 22 – 25 degree Celsius. However, in temperatures lower than 10 degrees, the car will run up to a maximum of 62 – 77 Miles.

This is however the worst case scenario. Nissan has installed the latest telemetric in the Leaf and the car can be connected to your smart phone and meant to work accordingly. The car is also smarter than its predecessor and can record the driving style of the driver and save up information and calculate the amount of juice left within the batteries. This also calculates the approximate distance which can be travelled within the time frame.

Nissan however claims that the Government needs to work up infrastructure if they want people to purchase electric vehicles. The Leaf was tested in various tracks around the globe and in various environmental conditions too and the result obtained managed to impress. The Nissan Leaf is one of the most powerful electric passenger vehicles on the road and due to Nissan's ingenious engineering the car is also within the budget of most families.

The handling however could have improved and this lets down on the overall rating of the vehicle. Compared to the last generation Leaf, the 2013 model is way better. The suspension has received a lot of work while bumps can still be felt at times. However, considering the price tag, this is the best bet at the range and Nissan sure deserves credit for its hard work.

Priced at £18,490 including the tax benefits, the Leaf is quite a deal. In fact the high fuel efficiency means that people will actually consider purchasing an electric vehicle for use within the city limits. The Nissan Leaf is a great urban vehicle and its characteristics make it the best electric urban vehicle there is on the road. People should consider the Leaf if they are looking for a vehicle for use strictly within the city.
