Nissan Gripz Concept Announces Next Generation Juke
|   Monday, October 12, 2015
Nissan presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show a crossover concept called Gripz. The prototype was created by specialists from Nissan's design studios in Europe and. It seems a source of inspiration in creating the concept was the Datsun 240Z rally model.

In the 70s these cars have won a number of competitions, including the Safari Rally organized in 1973. The vehicles are distinguished from standard models through a tougher suspension, increased ground clearance, and a body painted in a red-orange shade.

Next to this, the Gripz received numerous stylistic elements taken from the Sway concept, presented this spring at the Motor Show in Paris. Broadly speaking, the concept we are talking about now has the radiator grille and the optical blocks shape like those seen on the Sway hatchback.

Gripz concept has four doors, a design dominated by sharp lines with a V grille, boomerang shaped headlights, aerodynamic roof and unconventional C pillars. Nissan tried to explain the fact that this concept must be seen as a statement and not as a future model, although it is possible to influence the future Juke stylistic lines.
But the similarities end there. While the Sway alluded to a possible move for a compact hatchback, the Nissan Gripz Concept goes another way entirely.

"Nissan pioneered the idea of the compact crossover, and this is reflected in the enormous popularity of Qashqai and JUKE and the resulting growth of the market segment as other manufacturers play catch-up. While the Nissan Gripz Concept is not seen as a direct replacement for either of those two iconic vehicles, it does show the extremes to which the compact crossover can be pushed" declared Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer for Nissan.
The Nissan Gripz Concept's sizes are: 4,100 mm length, 1,890 mm width, 1,500 mm in height and 2,580 mm wheelbase.

Although Nissan officials do not talk about any connections the Gripz concept might have with the future Juke, there are still a number of interesting elements.
With proportions and dimensions specific to the B segment, which includes the crossover that started the madness of the city SUV, the new Gripz offers the same nonconformist image, which Juke promoted so far, with substantial changes due to a new Nissan line design. The V-shaped front grille will appear on the production model, and the front and back optical blocks will be part of the aesthetic picture of the future Juke, along with a plunged ceiling resembling an inverted cap, a sign that the Juke will not lose its pleasant aspect with the launch of the new generation.

Another important aspect of the Gripz concept is the solution chosen by engineers for the propulsion system. The Gripz is a plug-in hybrid whose package consists of an electric engine found under the hood of the Nissan Leaf EV, and a petrol engine, which is designed to power the electric motor when the battery is discharged. In other words, we are speaking of the same technology found on models like the Opel Ampera, Chevrolet Volt and BMW i3.
