Nissan Confirms Participation In LMP1 Class World Endurance Championship In 2015 Season
|   Friday, June 13, 2014
Nissan has officially announced the return into LMP1endurance racing. The Japanese manufacturer will run in 2015 the 24 hours of Le Mans with the model called the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo. The Japanese from Nissan said about this model only that it is a different model from what the competitors from Porsche, Audi and Toyota had.

The entry of Nissan in the highest level of endurance racing comes one year after Porsche's return to the famous competition which is taking place at the Sarthe circuit.
The tour circuit's record of hosting the 24-hour race at Le Mans was achieved in 2010 by a Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, driven by Loic Duval, who managed to travel a distance of 13,629 km in 3:09:074.

Before participating in 2015, Nissan will run in the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans edition with a model which has already booked the famous Garage 56 in the paddock, the Nissan ZEOD RC. The model name comes from the Zero Emission Race Car On Demand and its results will not be included in the overall standings.

The ZEOD RC has a hybrid system able to provide 100 percent electric autonomy in the competition for one lap. This mode will be used in each first lap of the stint by each pilot, right from the stand. Otherwise, propulsion is provided by a 1.5-liter turbo engine with three cylinders that develops 400 hp and weighs 40 kilograms.
On the basis of that participation, Nissan will be able to put to work the team of pilots and engineers to test technology and aerodynamics that will be used in 2015. So far, Nissan never won the 24 hours of Le Mans race, and the GT-R LM Nismo, expected to be presented later, is the one hope of victory for the Japanese.

Coincidence or not, Porsche's return to Le Mans also take place in 2014 and is still the most successful brand in the endurance competition, so Japan's Nissan should not be afraid just of Audi and Toyota, after Peugeot left the scene two years ago.

Shoichi Miyatani, Nismo president, regarding the model: "The design and build of the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo is a global project with its DNA firmly rooted in Japan. The team comprises engineers and technical crew from Japan, the US and Europe. We know that LMP1 competition is very tough, with serious manufacturer competition, but we are absolutely determined to make our cars competitive and to operate strongly against those competitors. We have chosen to take the GT-R name to Le Mans as the GT-R symbolizes the ultimate in Nissan's performance. It is a true aspirational brand; a car our fans, our customers love to drive, and love to own. We have been using GT-R in motorsport for many years now, in Super GT and GT3. For us LM P1 is the ultimate test. We have unfinished business at Le Mans and now we have our chance to target victory."
