Next super car from BMW: 2015 I8
|   Thursday, September 12, 2013
As expected, BMW will soon launch on of the most impressive hybrid drivetrains, this time included on the latest I8 which is actually the absolutely new and improved I3, incorporating the famous Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept.

Remarkably, it seems that the production of i8 will actually continue the in line three cylinder engine concept and one important enhancement would be the combination with an electric motor in order to drive the front wheels.

It seems that the official starting price of the eagerly expected i8, in the US, is $135,925 and will be available in showrooms at the beginning of 2014.
The company has publically declared that the new model's exterior design will include less synthetic glass and the final version will definitely have a stronger structure probably achieved through the aluminum chassis. The choice of the aluminum chassis has been explained as the most simply way to ha the powertrain and the passenger cells both included but split.

Consisting of strong, yet lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic, the cell is indeed an innovation and contributed to the surprising fact that the i8 actually weights less than 3,285 pounds.

Also, the upcoming vehicle includes a set of fresh, new features: kidney grille paired with larger air intakes for the front and standard doors instead of gull-wing. Moreover, a quad exhaust system will be added to the rear part.

The leaked images of the i8 show a redesigned model with a fresh look but which still preserves classic characteristics of the previously designed concept model. This has been quite common for BMW, it is a way of keeping up the traditional characteristics. An element which has been totally excluded is the big door glass and the blue highlight, and this should be appreciated as both of them looked a bit rusty now.

Featuring a 1.5 liter three-cylinder engine, the i8 will be able to deliver 231 hp and 236 pond-feet of torque. The electric motor becomes very useful whenever the front wheels are driven and it is able to produce 131 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. Both together are able to produce 362 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a six speed automatic which has been paired with a two stage transmission on the electric motor.

The company has stated that the i8 is able to travel up to 310 miles or almost to 372 miles if the Eco Pro mode is enabled. I8 can travel only on electric about 22 miles if charged once and reach a top speed of 75 mph. Completely charging the battery is going to take about 3 and a half hours at a 120 volt household plug while at a 220 voltage plug it would be a lot quicker, just 1 and a half hour.

The main competitor of HYPERLINK "http://www.topspeed.com/cars/mercedes/2015-mercedes-benz-slc-class-ar111008.html" 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class, BMW i8 will be available in the showrooms at the beginning at 2014 but it will represent the technology of 2015. The standard starting price which has been confirmed is $135,925.
