Next Mitsubishi Lancer Replacement to be Based on the GTR
|   Tuesday, July 23, 2013
The 2015 replacement to the Mitsubishi Lancer is edging closer to competition day by day and fans round the globe are eager to catch a first glimpse of the test mule of what the production car could finally look like. The Lancer replacement is however more closely related to the GTR and is powered by a 500 BHP plug in hybrid motor.

The Lancer hatch back will be revealed fall 2014 while the car will make it to showrooms by the end of the year. Hybrid technology is one of the most popular engine options around and engineers at Mitsubishi are working towards a hybrid platform for the hatch back as well.
The Lancer replacement could be based on the MiEV II platform from Mitsubishi although it is yet to be officially revealed.

It is however too early to comment on the situation although Mitsubishi could also be using the PHE platform for the car too. The electric drive train is completely dynamic and is one of the most advanced platforms at the moment. Performance of Pikes Peak earlier this month on the PHEV pointed out to be quite amazing while the vehicle based on the platform proved to be quite sturdy and built for the cause.

Road presence is immense and the renderings of the Lancer replacement stirred up the market quite a bit. Mitsubishi could also be providing an all electric drive train along with the hybrid option while low emission is the base criterion for the car. The Evolution draws styling cues from the Concept RA, showcased at Detroit earlier in 2008 while the performance friendly PHEV made its debut earlier this year in the United Kingdom.

Mitsubishi is claiming official fuel economy of 150 MPG while CO2 emission close to 50 g/km is expected to be achieved on the car. This vehicle could also travel a total distance of 40 Miles solely on electric power. This could be a tough competitor in the market for the vehicles already in control and Mitsubishi is confident of its vehicle leaving a mark just as the Lancer Evolution did.

Considering the fact that this is a Mitsubishi, the performance value of the car should be immense. However, the PHEV platform will be sold exclusively in Netherlands and Japan, Mitsubishi has confirmed. Mitsubishi will work on global infrastructure before this vehicle is available across global markets and this could take up considerable amount of time. The domestic car market in the US is quite saturated at the moment and this should be the perfect time for an import to do the trick.

Mitsubishi is however skeptical about investing in infrastructure in the US and a joint decision is expected to be taken by the end of the month. Experts all around are eagerly anticipating the outcome of the investment policy although official word is yet to arrive. However, we must accept that the Lancer replacing concept is one heck of a great looker although it remains to be seen if the production model can retain its curves.
